It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Henry, a truly cherished old friend.  My memories are rich of Rita and Henry moving next door to our cottage on Kahshe Lake and bringing their wonderful, caring, fun-loving family into our lives.  It's such a joy to remember all the times we got together with so many laughs and good humour and especially the funny stories Henry would relate, always intermixed with his delightful chuckles.  My Dad used to love to tell of the time he heard a knock at our front door and found Henry outside, hat-in-hand, asking shyly, "Can Dorothy come out to play?"  Everyone at Faraway cottage loved the friendship and camaraderie that quickly developed from living beside the Berhofers and hearing all the laughter that came from their cottage.  Ted joins me in sending our sincerest sympathy for your loss of a very special husband, father, grandfather and friend.  My heart goes out to you all.   Much love from Viv.

As a child growing up next to the Berghofers on Kahshe Lake, I was nurtured and watched over by both Mr and Mrs Berghofer like I was their own, along with enjoying the friendship of their kids Steven, Fran, Barb and Greg and I'm so very thankful for all of them.  One of my first fond memories of Mr. B was the encouragement and patience he showed me while I was trying to work up the nerve to jump off the floating dock and swim to the shore for the first time.  He also put in many man hours along with my father in the effort to help me waterski, a daunting task. If I had to say two words that summed him up they would be "kind and gentle".  The other two would be "funny and warped", because he had a comical comment for everything we kids did, and it usually involved calling one or more of us "rotten kids", but we always knew he felt quite the opposite!  My heart goes out to Mrs. B and Steven, Fran, Barb and Greg for your loss.  He was a one of the nicest men I have ever known.
