His sense of humour, even during the hardest moments of his brief illness, brought us much needed laughter.
Ian passed away on Oct. 16th at Mt. Sinai Hospital, with his family at his side. He will be forever missed by his adoring wife, Dominique Hamouth-Jones, his mother, Grace, his siblings, Katharine (Robert), Francis (Alec), Anthony (Ruth), his nephews and nieces, Mark, James (Melissa), Jessica, Gareth and Monica. He is predeceased by his father, John Jones.
Ian was equally cherished by his entire in-law family, Jacky and Claude Hamouth, Sophie , Liz (Sean), John, Victoria and Olivia.
Ian was multi-talented. As a young man, he enjoyed his time as a witty radio announcer in Kapuskasing, Ont., happily sharing his knowledge and love of musical artists. He also served as a courageous search-and-rescue team member in the Coast Guard in Georgian Bay.
He was a big man with a big heart who brought fun, laughter and learning to his pupils during his 25 years as an elementary-school teacher for the Toronto District School Board. His goal was always to inspire, especially through class projects such as making models of the Titanic, or writing and publishing books. He helped his pupils feel good about themselves.
Ian’s family and friends, pupils and colleagues, meant everything to him.
He nourished his soul by spending as much time as he could outdoors with his loyal Golden Retriever, Blitz. His passion for photography, jazz music, science fiction , literature, science and history satisfied his need for beauty and truth. He was an artist who drew and sculpted. And he knew how to have a great time.
We will always cherish our time with Ian.
