Dear Greta and Jerry, I was out of town and returning I saw your note. I am stunned. I and my family offer sincere and deepest sympathy to you and all your family on the tragically untimely passing of your beloved son James. I often listened to Blue Rodeo, in my youth, probably at the time he was in the band. It is part of my good nostalgic past. I regret I never met James or knew of the connection. From all the notices I read it seems the loss was mine. From all the notes it sounds as if he was a gifted musician and genuinely beautiful person. I wish you comfort in what I imagine are difficult times. If there were words to bring back your loved one I wish I knew them. I wish you strength and comfort from all the Nissan family.

My deepest condolences to James' family and friends. I initially knew James for a year or two in high school, back when he was known as Jamie. I reconnected with him a few years ago through mutual friends in the Queen West music scene, and I recognized him instantly by his smile. I have never forgotten the time in Grade 10 when Jamie came to my defense against a bully, in a most spectacular fashion. He modestly claimed that he barely remembered it, but I'm glad that, several decades later, I was able to tell him that he had been my hero. He will be missed, and remembered fondly both for his talent and his heart.

To the Gray Family, my heartfelt condolences. Meeting Jamie back in the '70's I believe, he was already a great talent then. I was so glad to have bumped into him a couple of times more recently than that. Upon hearing the shocking news, my deepest sympathies for your great loss.

My deepest condolences to the Gray family.  So thankful that I met James ten years ago and that we became friends.  There were so many fun times in those years.  I have a lot of favourite memories of James, but one of the sweetest was sitting outside of Starbucks on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, drinking coffee with James who was playing his melodica.  Anytime a child walked by he played the theme from Sesame Street.  They would look and look again at James as they walked by......and that just made me smile.  Rest in peace sweet James. When I think of James, it's his smile that I see in my mind. James had a smile that could light up your day! 
My favourite memory of time spent with James, is of one day back in the '90s -- it was a beautiful sunny afternoon, and there we were on a hillside at Trinity Bellwoods park -- just me, James and his guitar, together singing our hearts out to the birds and critters! That was a special moment!

I got to know James Gray when he became and on and off member of The House of David Gang, a reggae band based in Toronto.  We had been working for the past two years on the band's debut album and his parts really bring the album to life.  I always enjoyed James' company, although he could be a bit grumpy on the exterior.  He was a humble man and so passionate about music, that it was all his focus.  I am indebted to his guidance in playing together.  He inspired me to play at my best and he will be missed.   Lots of love to the Gray family and all who were touched by James.

James you will truly be missed - you were a great talent, you added so much to Toronto's musical landscape.

We knew Jamie as a young man.He was the same age as our son.His parents Greta and Jerry were tennis partners and friends many years ago.Our family was proud of Jamie's accomplishments in the Canadian music world.Like father,like son.

My sincere and deepest condolences to you. I was blessed to know James and share some great musical times together playing with my band Jughead, Stratochief as well as my solo project AKA Sugarlips. We became friends and he was always so generous with his time and superior musical talent. He really was a Star yet he had time for the little people like me. I was very shocked and extremely sorry to hear of James' passing. The Toronto music scene of eighties, where I first met him, was a very tight knit community and James was a strong part of our circle of musicians and friends.
