We think of you all very often and can only imagine the pain you feel. Your memories will always be with you. My dad passed from cancer 3 years ago this April and although it is still hard, we find we remember all the good times we had and cherish all the memories, as well knowing that our loved ones are not suffering and are watching over us is great comfort....... In aquatics and first aid I taught James, he taught me too,and we also taught together. I have yet to meet a man who can pick up ideas and concepts so quickly. Smart and intelligent but quite fun to be with. Never flaunted his brainy side. Concepts he talked about three years ago are only now being implemented in first aid training (compressions only CPR as an example). I miss you my dearest brainy friend.

My fondest memories were of James in class bragging about who I was and what I had accomplished. He often embellished the stores much to my embarasment as I did not want to correct him. I would smile and nod. After I would thank him for being so proud of knowing me but in reality it was such a pleasure to be in his company. He could be stern when needed yet was always there to help you out...I miss that while teaching. Many of his traits have now been passed on to the ADET family of faciclitators and so it continues in his spirit. This will always be a treasure. You blessed us all wth your presence, intelligence and laughter...I know you are watching over us all and getting a few laughs in when you see some of your antics being replayed in class now!

Heather, Zachary and Emma - I have only recently heard of our loss of a wonderful man, a terrific teacher and a really great Dad.  As each year, we had to review our CPR certification, James was by far the most engaging instructor I have ever had....and I will never forget giving an epi-pen to an orange, because THAT in itself was the best "hands on" one could hope for.  Having Zach in art class was such a blast - he is probably still the coolest young man on the block.  I loved his attitude which came straight from Mom and Dad...you always had a kind word, a laugh and a smile while you were waiting for us to give you your children back.  That, mixed with straightforward, good old-fashioned common sense made for a rare combination and precious memories.  I feel so fortunate in having our lives cross paths, and will continue to cherish my own memories, as I hope and know how much he is still in our hearts.

You will always mean a lot to Uncle Helmut and I. We remember you making a trip on your own with us out to our cabin in Otter Falls, MB. You stayed overnight because you wanted to spend time with us! Another time we enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner with you and your family at your home. You had cut your hair, something I thought you would never do, and I told your daughter you reminded me of the actor, Matthew McConaghy. You truly did. You made us all hot Pumpkin Lattes shortly after we arrived. On an earlier visit, we joined you and the kids in the hot tub. You always made us feel special! James, we know you are okay, and we will be seeing you again. We will do our best to love your wife and kids. Our thoughts are with them.

I was a student of James at Muskoka Woods for the bronze medallion course. James was always persistent and precise on how our coffee quality and mix should be! We didn't talk much together of Christ but for the short time I knew him it was great to see it lived. "Preach the gospel, and if necessary, use words". Hope James's family are comforted in these times.

I have never forgotten the first time we met in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
He was floored by the fact my last name was Bacon......From that day on I was only known as  "cooked". After 29yrs He still only ever called me  "cooked". When I asked James to be a part of my wedding 19yrs ago, he had no problem jumping on a plane and coming back to Sherwood park to be a part of my wedding party, He has always been a part of my life. My sincerest condolences to Heather and family from

James will be missed by so many people.  It is hard not to know what a beautiful person he is when you meet him.  I met James as a patient at our dental office.  I instantly knew he was a special person when you sit down and talk to him.  Our hearts go out to Heather and the children and they will be in our thoughts and prayers.

We all met through our children, Zachary and Hollie.  When Hollie was diagnosed with diabetes I was beside myself.  I was scared, mad, tired and so unsure of what to do or what to expect.  I remember talking to James and I felt such a sense of peace.  I came to support meetings at your home and I looked forward to feeling the positive energy and love that I always felt at each meeting. Every time I saw James or talked to James he always had words of encouragement and wisdom.  I remember particularly a phone call I made to James to tell him I wouldn't be making it to a meeting that night as I was struggling with some of the diabetes stuff. He was so supportive and loving on the phone. He spent a good hour listening to me cry and scream.  I remember hanging up the phone and looking up to the sky and saying a big thank you for sending me an angel.  I really believe that he was an angel. He had his wings through this life.  I cannot tell you how he impacted me that day and the days to follow. I am blest for having the chance to have met James.  We will always remember his smile, determination, optimism and true love of life.

Dear Heather and family. I was so sad when I heard of James passing. It was always a pleasures working with him and ADET. He was definitely one of the best instructors I ever saw.. I will cherish our lunch together earlier this year and the wonderful chat we had about your family, travels to central America and about his continued passion to help others. James your inspiring spirit and positivity will truly be missed.

My condolences, Mr. King was truely an amazing man in his teaching ability and ability to look at life with a positive light. I remember wondering how James got his life in order. James was an awesome human being. Always friendly, always full of smiles. I still remember the day he spoke to my father about gophers tearing up the grass in our backyard (the Kings are awesome neighbours so we refuse to put a fence up!). My father agreed that the gophers were being jerks wrecking our backyard and he wanted to help James. My fathers first gift to James was a trap, and he didn't even catch the gopher for James. Unfortunately we caught a SKUNK for him instead. As the years went on James would always tell me crazy stories about the things my father does but I never witnessed. He even took pictures of some of the shenanigans that occurred. He was so cool, that my father tried to copy the majority of the things that he did around our homes. James painted his garage blue, my dad was like "man, James has good choices in colour, I think I have to do that too". James puts up a Canadian flag in front of his house... well my dad just had to copy that too. Witnessing this interaction with James and my father made me realize that he is definitely someone people would want to emulate. I'm going to miss him so much. When ever I would come home and he was outside relaxing he would always ask me if I wanted to go for a bike ride, or hang out. I deeply regret not following through with those invitations. He was a wonderful person, and I will never forget all the memories he gave me. Don't worry James, all those times you went on vacation I never used your hot tub. I swear. It was tempting though. I miss you dude!

James was very special to me a long time ago.  I'm shocked and sorry to hear of his passing.  My thoughts and prayers go out to James' entire family.

James was an incredible, kind, genuine, honorable, caring man! I could go on! I had the chance to meet him at Muskoka Woods and he indeed left a mark on my life. Each time I saw him he had a smile and was vibrant and full of life. He had passion and desire flowing through him to love others in such an amazing way! His attitude was a reflection of Christ living in him! I enjoyed chatting with him on the boat and having him teach us. He was such a joyful man! I am so thankful to have met him! My condolences to the family.

James always seemed to have so much energy and such a positive attitude. He never failed to make first aid training fun for our staff. James you will be greatly missed!

My silly memories consist of James and myself, no more than 11 or 12yrs old- James chasing me around Brant, or Lowville Park (at a picnic)- teasing and bugging me...an embarrassed, flattered and annoyed me...giggling and goading him on. A very fun memory of my past, and happy James was part of it. Rest in Peace James....prayers to all of you who have lost him.

If roses grow in heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for me, place them in my Brother’s arms and tell him they’re from me. Tell him I love him and miss him, and when he turns to smile, place a kiss upon his cheek and hold him for awhile. Because remembering him is easy, I do it every day, but there’s an ache within my heart that will never go away.

I will always remember meeting James in school here in Sherwood Park, Alberta. James was a huge fan of listening and break dancing to rap music. He was very quick to share his talents and great personality with others. To this day I remember listening to Whodini and Herbie Hancock with James using his portable stereo. James was one of those people who had a warm friendly way about him a great friend to hang with. James you will be missed and I hope you have moved on to a better place. Meeting James and Heather in 1998 was the shot of joy and family that my girls needed in our new neighbourhood.  It went well beyond neighbours.  
That's exactly what we gained in our lives from that first meeting 15 years ago joy and family.  James always looked after us, was always fun, and always there with a hand, anytime we needed anything.  He was so in love with his beautiful bride, and she made it well known with her ever present smile back at him, that she adored him too.  James made us laugh.  He made us feel protected.  My girls loved you James like a big strong brother.  Zach and Emma are blessed to have known your kind of love, and the pride that this KING showed every time he spoke of his family.  I am happy that you had a chance to live life to the fullest - you always did.  With saddened hearts, Justine, Jasmin, Chloe and I send our deepest condolences.   James was truly a great man. xo <3

When we moved to the "hood" in July of 2005, I first laid eyes on James strolling up Foxcroft, rocking his "strut" and Riley.  What I saw was a guy with a long ponytail and ink, (tattoos)....being a cop I judged the book by the cover and thought...."dirtbag".  After flipping open the cover of the "book", I discovered the content within was that of humor, laughter, sillyness, love, passion and brilliance.  James was the epitome of personality and his was bigger than life....one of the best books I've ever opened and read! 

Looking back James, I am so grateful that I gave you the chance to show what your story was all about.  We've had a lot of laughs and it was always a pleasure to see your smiling face and hear you yell: YO YO BROTHERRRRRRRRRRR while peeping into our backyard from your bedroom window!!!!  I will miss you Kinger....you crazy bugger!!!!!

We have always considered ourselves to be so fortunate to have James as a member of our family.  He will be sorely missed.

For everyone who knows James they feel the same as I do, I'm sure.  One solid meeting with James and he feels like he is an old friend.  His genuineness was so visible and his passion for life and family was incredible.  Over 10 years ago I was able to have James come into our lives as our First Aid instructor and he soon became a fixture at Deerhurst Resort with Heather, Zach and Emma in tow.  He inspired me so much as an instructor that I asked if he could do something a little different and special for the Waterfront team that worked here and with his knowledge and background of lifeguarding he obliged and helped so many young staff feel so comfortable being in such a responsible position.
Almost 6 years ago our friendship grew even stronger...my one and half year old daughter (at the time) was choking on a hairclip and my wife called out with a shivering scream, when I came face to face with my unconscious, not breathing child; I knew exactly what to do...the next 7 minutes of my life was forever changed as I was able to rescue my child minutes before the ambulance arrived.  The next time I saw James, our handshakes and hugs got a little stronger.  I thanked him many times over the years, for helping me save my daughter. Every time I saw him over the next few years I made sure that I could/would do anything for him and his wonderful family, and they became family to so many of Deerhurst staff.  I am so deeply sorrowed for you Heather, Zach and Emma...but I know that James was able to assist in helping so many people help save lives.  THANK YOU JAMES!!

Few are ever given the gift of true love. You were my gift for the past 18 years. I feel honored to have been your wife. Our life was incredible together full of love, adventure and so much fun. I will never be able to thank you for our beautiful children Zach and Emma. In them lies everything I love and adore so much about you. You will always be my one and only James. I met James many years ago when I first started working at Medtronic of Canada. He was by far the best First Aid/CPR trainer one could ever hope to learn from. His passion and dedication for educating others was a true example of the unlimited kindness and raw humanity this world certainly needs more of. James, I remember babysitting you in Burlington.  My fondest memory - your hair. I met James more than a decade ago and from that moment on, ADET was the only company I would use for training my staff. James had the ability to engage his training classes and it was so easy to learn from his expertise. He had such passion for his work and was very proud to be able to teach others. I have had the pleasure of speaking with Heather over the years and I know as time moves on, ADET will remain a first rate company. James supplied First Response training to many, many employees of Sony for almost 15 years.  He was engaging, enthusiastic and loved to tell a story.  His classes were upbeat and fun and his training exemplary.

I had the privilege of getting to know James over three years starting in 2005. He taught first aid and CPR and trained our ERT at Kawneer on mnay occassions. His professionalism and passion for what he did was always very apparent. Even more appreciated though was his wit, humour and infectious smile. I always admired him not just for his knowledge and passion, but I never once came across James when he did not mention his wife and children. My thoughts go out to James family and closest friends for their loss. James was a major influence on my life 25 years ago and continued to be a great resource, mentor and friend. While I did not keep in close personal contact with James over the last 10 years we did share e-mails from time to time and conversed on many changes in our professional world. You will be missed however your memory and dedication will live on through the rest of us. Raising the rescue can for you James!

I did not realize till now that James and I have three things in common, we grew up at Brant Bible Church , we had a very good friend die of cancer when we were young who I know we both think about, Mark Hall, who was a blessing in our lives and my son is a cancer survivor of liver cancer. We are 4 years post chemo and doing well. 
I am so sad that we have two cancer stories in common , cancer is so traumatic and so sorry James suffered so much. BUT we do have strong biblical teaching in common being at Brant so long and I know James knows the same God I know. So thankful for the hope that is only found in Christ on earth but mostly , in heaven. Thankful James knew the truth and can't help but think of Mark and James having a reunion now! Praying so hard for the ones left behind, so hard, can't comprehend but can only pray for you all.

I met James and Heather 17 years ago and his enthusiasm for life and his dedication to his work was amazing and kept me in the ADET family from when he asked me to join. His sense of humour and his ability to make you feel comfortable in any situation whether it was from a work sense or on a personal note. When his children came along, I could see his dedication to his family was critical to his well being and their love and strength helped him through this time that he kept private from many. He loved to tell the stories of my blunders in class especially when I was present...this often lead to laughter. His training of his staff (known as the ADET Family) was exceptional and always on the leading edge. I know that we all will share in keeping this legacy alive. 
Heather, you are the corner stone of the family and I know with the love and support of all of your extended family will help you and your family though this loss of the most wonderful man in your lives and ours.
Rest in Peace James, your new journey has begun.

Roads travelled introduce us to many new fascinating people and faces. On one such road, I met James only a short time ago, where 5 years is but a handshake in time now. The great moment came when I realized whose hand I was shaking and the true value of the person that stood behind it. It has taken those 5 years to even begin to appreciate and understand the depth of his character and compassion for people in general. I wish Heather, Zachary and Emma my deepest condolences. I will remember the exceptional person that James was, and if nothing, take His message with me to pass along, as I continue to walk roads shake new persons hands in my travels. I this time there is nothing I can give or say, but to offer the promise a true great person will not be forgotten. His values and integrity will stand as a cornerstone in my mind. Heather, Zachery and Emma, celebrate what was an exceptionally great person, my heart and thoughts go out to you.

We have felt so blessed to have known James. He is a friend to remember. We will never forget him. Certain people touch your life, and James was certainly one of them. He was such a wonderful man. We can't imagine what you are feeling Heather and how difficult this time must be for you and the kids. We are so sorry. We want to express our deepest condolences to all of you.
