I am saddened to read of John's passing. I was raised on Grant Street in Woodstock and lived beside the Werbys and up the street from John. Both Stev(i)e Werby and John(ny) McCartney were my earliest best friends and pals, until we moved away and lost touch in 1959. I'd luckily re-connected with "Gunner" Werby in 1994 and we spoke of spending many hours climbing the huge tree in the McCartney home backyard. John, you were a gentle souled fellow with a terrific laugh and a mighty fine sense of humour. After reading the posted condolences, I  see that you indeed became a wonderful adult, husband, and father. I extend my most sincerest regards to your family. John, I'll be seeing you down the road. Dear Mrs. McCartney, 
I just found out today that John has passed away. I was on vacation since July 12th and asked a Guarantee colleague how John was.  I work at Stevenson & Hunt Insurance Brokers in London and had many, many conversations with John when he worked in the Woodstock office.  I could always plan on extended conversations when I would call John and we would discuss why I thought GCNA should write a risk.  He was extremely insightful, a wealth of knowledge, fair in his decisions, and I will miss him more than words can ever say.  My thoughts are with you and your sons, John was an exceptional person and I will miss him very much.

These last few years I had the privilege of being John's office neighbour, colleague and friend.  John was a true gentleman.  He was someone you could rely on.  And he always loved telling a story.  It's hard for me to believe that I will no longer hear John saying “See ya kiddo” before leaving the office at the end of the work day.  I will miss him.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  I had the pleasure of working for John in the past and he was everything you could hope for in a manager.  He spoke often of his family and was especially proud of his boys.  His friendly smile and sincere greetings around the office will be greatly missed.

John was a joy to work with on our project - I always called him "Smiley" because he seemed happy all the time and greeted everyone with a big smile.  At lunch he frequently talked about how proud he was of his sons.  It was clear to see that his family was the most important thing in his life.  I will miss him greatly.
