Our father, Kwong Lam Wong, was born in Yang Zhou, Jiang Zu province, in China. He was 89 years old when he passed away. He started to work as a hairdresser and took care of his family since he was 16 years old. He was always kind and generous to people. And he always had a great smile when he met people.
In the early 1970’s, our father had a very successful beauty salon business in Hong Kong. His shop was located in the affluent neighbourhood of Robinson Road, and he had about 9 people working for him. He was at the peak of his career and doing quite well financially. However, because of his care for his children’s education, he gave that all up and took his family to come to Canada. No longer a boss, he worked as a hairdresser during daytime and weekend nights as a chef assistant at a Chinese restaurant. After a few years, he was able to open a small beauty salon in Chinatown with our mom.
Dad, your sacrifice did not get wasted. We were able to graduate from universities. We are also doing well in our careers, and we have wonderful families. We know those have always been your greatest pride.
Dad, we will never forget your teachings, your generosity to people, sleeping in your station wagon at a park in Victoria, how hard-working you were at your business, and your smile. We are all very proud of you and grateful of what you did for us.
We are very happy and thankful that you have accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as your personal saviour. Because of that, we know that you are now in heaven with our heavenly Father, full of joy and love. We find peace and comfort in knowing that.
Goodbye for now, dad. We will surely meet again in heaven for eternity
