Lawrence Barakett

Of Etobicoke, ON passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Dorothy Ley Hospice after an incredibly brave nine year battle with cancer. Larry was born to the late Ellya and Rose Barakett on January 13, 1948 in Trois Rivieres, Que. Brother to Nita, Joyce, and Bill Barakett, Larry married Beverly in 1971 and they lived together in Rosemere, Que. where they gave birth to their son Jarrod before moving to Etobicoke, ON. in 1993. He is survived by his wife Beverly, caring son Jarrod (Lindsay) of Waterloo, ON, two granddaughters Lia and April, sister Joyce of Montreal, and brother Bill (Janie) of Knowlton. Larry made a lasting contribution to the Canadian business community, quickly working his way into a position of leadership within the Montreal life insurance industry. He later took his knowledge and ambition to Toronto where he built an extremely successful brokerage firm. Larry believed in the value of strong relationships and surrounded himself with people whom he loved and respected in both his business and personal life. Larry will always be remembered for his love, strength, and incredible sense of humour, all of which stayed with him until the very end. The family expresses their profound thanks to the Princess Margaret Hospital and Dorothy Ley Hospice in Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bone Marrow Research & Transplant Fund through The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation-by logging onto www.pmcf.ca. Donations can also be made to the St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. Visitation will be held at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home located at 6150 Yonge Street (at Goulding, south of Steeles, Toronto) on Thursday, August 1st from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.. The Funeral Service will be held at the St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church located at 9116 Bayview Ave. (south of 16th Avenue, Richmond Hill) on Friday, August 2nd at 10:30 a.m. Interment Elgin Mills Cemetery.
