Mary Kearns

Widow of James Halliwell Kearns and mother of Carolyn (Bob Hutchison), Susan (Byron Moldofsky) and Mark (Kim Edwards). Grandmother to Jack (Allison MacKenzie), Jane and Tom (Tara Miller), Alan (Hilary Neale) and Kate, James and William (Hannah Alvarez). Great grandmother to Julia and Adele, and Ashton.

Mary was born February 19, 1925 in Portsmouth England and sailed to Canada in July 1946 to reunite with her Canadian husband whom she met in London during the war while nursing at Charing Cross Hospital. She was a dedicated wife and mother who lived for many years in Thornhill surrounded by family and friends, and a variety of pets especially dogs and cats. Mary was a committed volunteer for school, church and hospital organizations and was noted for her intrepid nature and can-do attitude. She was still playing bridge, attending theatre productions and enrolling in later life learning courses well into her 90’s often travelling by public transit.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday October 28, 2023 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Brooke Street, Thornhill followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.

Donations in memory of Mary can be made to The Toronto Humane Society or the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre.
