

The McCloskey family is saddened to announce the passing of the family patriarch, Michael Francis McCloskey in his 80th year. Michael passed away on September 18th, 2022 at home in Thornhill, Ontario, surrounded by his family. He had bravely battled lung cancer for 8 months.
Michael’s joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Ann (nee Grant), his beloved children Deborah, Michael John (Rachelle) and Paul (Amanda), and his dearly loved grandchildren Madeline, Michael Jean-Marc, Sean, Mary Ann, Catherine, Isaac, Carmen and Erin.
Michael is predeceased by his parents Michael Louis and Mary (Markham) McCloskey and his sister Mary Ann O’Connell (Fergus). He is survived by his remaining sisters Agnes De Haas (Lucas), Catherine Guatto (Gino), Barbara Poce (Paul), as well as his many nieces and nephews.
Michael was a true Catholic gentleman and was deeply involved in his faith no matter where his career took him. He was a long time member of St. Luke’s Parish, Thornhill, where he was an active member of the community with many roles over the decades such as Lector, Prayer group leader, Prayer line support, Finance committee member, Eucharistic minister, to name only a few. Michael also personally reached out to many isolated and older parishioners who needed assistance. He had a great devotion to the Divine Mercy which helped him through his cancer journey.
Mike was a graduate of Ryerson University in Business and became a C.G.A. He had a varied and successful business career in finance and upper management that took him with his family across Canada with stops in Saint John, NB, Montreal, PQ, and North Bay, ON and back to Toronto where he retired.
His faith, humour and presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will take place Sunday, Sept. 25th, 2022 from 2-5pm at the Kane-Jerret Funeral Home, 8088 Yonge St., Thornhill (www.dignitymemorial.com). A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 39 Green Lane, Thornhill, on Monday, Sept. 26th, 2022 at 11am with reception to follow in the church hall. A private interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery. As per Michael’s wishes, the family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Covenant House (covenanthousetoronto.ca) and Chalice (www.chalice.ca). The family would like to thank the caregivers from the Thornhill Palliative Care team, Dr. D. Cheah and the staff at the Stronach Cancer Center at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket.
