They say someone is never truly gone until you stop remembering them. I think there is truth in this. 

When you left this Earth a great part of me went missing but I think you left some of yourself behind for me to find. 

When you left this Earth I gathered your things and held them close.

I sit here wondering how 5 years could have possibly gone by... but it has, 5 whole years without you. I do not know if it feels like longer, or feels like just yesterday we were talking... Dear Kileen & family:

My Mom and I have been missing our once or twice a year "hello" from my dearest and life-long friend Mike and tried to find a phone number to give you guys a call since I lost all my "contact numbers" when I left my company.

I've been in complete shock and sadness upon learning of Mike's passing a few days ago while trying to look you guys up on the internet.

Since the obituary says that he died "unexpectedly" I'm so sorry for what you all must have gone through at that time and onwards.

I have never known a kinder and more joyful soul.  My last conversation with Mike was about the excitement you were both feeling at the upcoming arrival of your first grand-child.  I could tell he was over the moon about that and how proud he was of all three of your sons!!

It is evident from all the condolences that Mike made a huge impact on so many people's lives in the way that was most important to him....by loving his family, by community involvement and by maintaining close bonds with his friends.

While I'm saddened to not have been able to express my sincerest sympathies to you all in person at the Tribute Service I hope you will accept them at this time.  

How wonderful to have your lovely family to carry on Mike's legacy!

Coach Mike, you have been on my mind and in my thoughts quite frequently as of late. I even dreamt about you last night. It was a nice dream. We were talking ball, as we quite often did over the years, discussing strategy and talking about areas to improve. After our discussion, I gave you a hug and told you that I loved you. You smiled and walked away. I woke up sad this morning knowing that it was just a dream and that you’re not here. But I was also happy, because we had a nice visit in the dream and to me it was more than a dream. It was a legitimate visit. You came to say hello. I firmly believe that. I looked at the calendar after I got up to see that today is May 30th, exactly 20 months since you left us. 

I’m not sure that you will ever know just how much you’re missed. You were a great man. It was a pleasure sharing the ball field with you. To this day, each time I come to the ball park, I think about you, wishing you there. Sometimes I fully expect to see you and it’s still shocking when you don’t show up. There are many times during the course of a game when I make a coaching decision and I ask myself “what would Coach Mike think?” I am doing my very best to fill in for you and help lead Goulding Park to success and I hope that you are proud of me and proud of all the guys on the team. 

We miss you Coach Mike and we will always remember you and the positive impact you made on all of our lives. Every time we take the field, we play for you. We compete hard and fight until the very end of the game. And you will never see this Goulding team quit. That’s the best and only way to honour your tremendous legacy.

Rest easy my friend. I love you.

I cant believe a month has gone by since you left us.... well, you will never really leave us... but you left our physical world. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you, and how much I truly miss you with all my heart. Since you've be gone, Boston has grown some new teeth (or Toofies as Jac likes to call them). He's laughing and clapping and crawling.... its all pretty amazing - ...... I completely understand now.... what you said to me all those years ago....when you said that your kids are the best toys in the world. I wish you could be here to see him.....

I don't want you to worry about Mom,..... -  dano, KatieA , Jess and Melly are looking after her... shes in the best hands in the world - so please don't worry.

My dad:
As the oldest son on Michael J Scott and Kileen Tucker Scott, I had the pleasure of being – what I like to call – the guinea pig child. You know, the one child which parents make the majority of their mistakes on, and although those parents don’t want to admit it – I know they can all agree that the first baby – is the one which initializes their experience of becoming a parent. I guess what im getting at is… I am so very proud to be my parents guinea pig. 
Mr Scott, Teeter, Mike, Michael J, Michael J Scott, coach or simply dad – no matter by what title you knew my father by, I think it is safe to say, that we all know how much of an amazing man is was and still is. 
His passion of life was vibrant, vivacious, effervescent….. explosive – so much so that he could illuminate an entire ball park on the darkest of nights. He expressed this passion through a myriad of facets – whether it be through his music; with one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard; capable of creating incredible harmonies with himself that were brilliant. He collaborated with my mom to sing some of the first songs I can remember – “theres a house, stands on the corner, in my dreams of reality – I just rent a room there – it don’t belong to me…” . He then passed this passion and talent onto my brother – who himself writes and produces beautiful music.
His life’s passion was also expressed through his love for baseball…. So much so that when he himself stopped playing – he made sure to teach what he knew of the game to future generations. Coaching my brothers Dano and Jesse, throughout their house league years – and onto their Select team years, … onto starting and coaching Toronto’s first Mens Fastball league. He continued to express this passion for the game during the off season by organizing his pitching clinics, again, passing this love and knowledge for the game onto future ball players.
But the passion which I got to experience the most, and the one which I think means the most to my mom, my brothers and I – was his passion for being a good dad. He really was – and still is…. an incredible father. And every day which goes by – I will remember how amazing he is… and I will strive to be as amazing as he…. If I could grow up to be half the father he was to me… then my kid will have a pretty good dad. 
His passion for life passes through him to his sons… and will pass on through their child – Mike’s grandchildren – and his legacy will continue on – long after they’ve changed the field orientations at Hendon or Goulding… and as the weeks, months, and years pass…. I ask of all of you… to stop by our house over on Glengarry Ave… and sit on our front porch right in dads chair… and chat with my mom and brothers – share your stories of dad, Mike, or Teeter…. Whatever you knew him as…. My Dad…. 
I will always Love you MANNNNNNNNN!


I am so sorry to hear about Mike. He was truly a great man. A real man... genuine, caring and tough. I have often thought to myself..., actually.. hoped that I would cross paths with mike and kileen before they left us. I would have cherished one more opportunity to feel that firm hand shake of Mikes. Sit out on the front porch for a beer and watch a good storm. God bless his soul, the world is a lesser place without him. I love the scott family and mikes kindess for always helping me out with a meal and a roof - true grass root values that hardly exist anywhere anymore. thank you mike for being awesome

There are not too many people I can say I have been friends with for over 50 years !! People die every day but this one hit too close to homethis one hurt .After a time, a flood of memories came to me of the different adventures and times Mike and I had shared . My thoughts ranged from --- I cannot believe we did that , to how much fun we had . I found myself crying and laughing at the same time. I found myself thinking of how lucky I was to have Mike in my life. They say the good ones die too young it is certainly the case here . I hope there is a fastball team in heaven where Mike can patrol left field and hit those towering fly balls for home runs .You will be missed but always in my thoughts . 

I still can not imagine that Mikey won't be dropping by on his way to Hendon anymore. I could not have asked for a better friend for my Mom - and I am so glad he was a part of our lives. with love

Teeter will be missed very much. I will always remember my first experience of playing fastball with Canada Construction and Mike as my teammate. He always threw a great knuckle ball during warm ups.

Personally, Mike has always been there for me with his great advice, suggestions and knowledge of the game. Anytime I encountered an issue, my first instinct was to call Mike. He was always just a phone call away for me, never too busy to help out and always willing to do whatever was needed to help out. 
It's very hard to say goodbye to a great person like Mike. You will be dearly missed around Goulding Park.

Kileen and family - growing up in Willowdale, Michael was like another older brother for me.- an adopted "Bishop" as it were. When Neil told me of Michael's passing a flood of memories came rushing back. From his beloved fastball and going to watch him play to being chased, caught and "pounded" by him in the backyard on Churchill. He was the only one I could not out run (lol). My condolences to the Scott family for the loss of a beautiful husband, father, and grandfather. And to everyone that lost a truly special person in their lives.

Michael J Scott has been part of my life for longer then I can remember, and cannot remember summers spent without him. The game of baseball has been a past time for 23 years now, and the majority of that time was with Mike as my coach. Over the seasons we won a lot of games, and lost a lot of games, but Mike was always a constant. A Coach, mentor, role model, and foremost an amazing person. From the batting tips from the third base line to the life lessons taught on the Scott's front porch. I learned most of what I know about the game I love from Coach, but I can't put into words the brotherhood he has developed, with each and every person ever to wear the Blue and Gold. And for that I am truly thankful.

Mike is one of those people you meet once in a lifetime, and will not ever be replaced. But will be remembered for the remarkable man he was and the lessons he has taught myself and so many others.

My heart aches at the passing of Michael J, but I promise to play the game the right way, to keep my shoulder high and not swing at the rise ball, and to love each and every person I hold dear, on and off the ball field.

I’m so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing.  It was so sudden and so completely unfair.  
Michael J. Scott was a great friend and co-worker and I consider myself fortunate to have known him.

Whenever I think of Mike, I always think of fun.  He made it such a pleasure to be at work and I looked forward to seeing him every day.  We worked together for years at 15 Oakburn and 3 Tippett but you could hardly call it work.  Not a single day passed without frequent belly laughs and tears running down our faces.  Mike’s humour was a true treasure.  He could make me laugh but, man, nothing was easier or more fun than making HIM laugh.  I’d wait till he was on the phone and by the time I was through, he had to excuse himself and hand me the phone because he was laughing so hard that he couldn’t talk. 
 
It was Michael J. Scott that started me growing a beard every winter.  And every now and again, he’d bring in a big bag of flannel shirts for me to try on because they didn’t fit him anymore.  Mike is the reason I roll up my sleeves all the time now, because back then, some of the shirt sleeves were even too short for me.
  
After Mike retired, I dropped by the house a few times to visit, but life gets in the way and I saw him less and less.  I guess I thought there’d always be time to catch up but I was wrong.

I’m still fond of telling stories about Mike’s antics and uniquely, dry sense of humour.  I can’t imagine what life would have been like without him and I will miss him deeply and always remember him fondly.

Dear Kileen, Lucas, Dano, Jesse and family,

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to a good friend, coach and a great guy.  Mike and I started to coach together when Adam and Daniel and his boys, Dano and Jesse were small, and we carried on coaching together for 27 years.  We also ran the minor softball and fastball league, so as you can see we go back a long way and spent a lot of time together over the years and we got to know Kileen and the Scott family very well.  Mike and I would speak on the phone nearly every day and we would go over all the baseball issues, or he would just want to talk and shoot the breeze.  Kileen, I think that our husbands spoke more to each other than we did.

We all had a lot of good times together and myself, Cheryl and my family will never forget his friendship, knowledge, kindness and great sense of humour.  He will be greatly missed by of us, but never forgotten.

Dearest Scott family, it goes without saying that Mike was crucial in my athletic and personal development.  I will forever cherish my time with him.  The moments of triumph, defeat, and humility that came both on and off the field sealed our profound personal bond over more than 3/4 of my young life.  What I will always remember most about him was his unconditional love and generosity, both for his family and his "family" which has and never will stop growing.  As a Scottmalnek, I am deeply saddened and broken by his passing, but am resolved to enlighten the lives of others with the lessons that he taught me and the examples that he set. I was saddened to hear of your sudden horrendous loss . Although I never met Mike, the way you talked about him and of your family, I was under the impression that you were all very close. That closeness will be a comfort to you in the days to come. May your memories of time you shared with Mike provide solace to all of you.


The entire Scott clan has been in my thoughts and prayers these past few days. Dale and I send sincere condolences.  

Long ago I remember that Mike and I both took the Beta route for cassette movie tapes only to learn much later that VHS was going to conquer the market.  Mike was so helpful to me as I made that painful transfer of my favorite movies to the new format. That's just the kind of guy he was, willing to share his skills. We both laughed a lot about that poor choice afterwards! 

For some reason. I can't help remembering that " Auntie Gwen"  gave Mike the same pack of white sport socks every year at Christmas, year after year after year. And every year , Mike was never disappointed and was always  gracious and generously appreciative even though he knew what was coming In that gift bag. Always a gentleman and considerate of the feelings of others. Remember those socks family? 
 Mike was the only man in my life who greeted me  with a quirky wave that involved sticking his hand up under his chin and wiggling his fingers like the Thrre Stooges. It still  brings a huge smile to my face. It was a one of a kind greeting from a one-of-a-kind man .

I have been reminiscing about Mike with my dad, " Uncle Yng". Yng is intrigued by your  touching idea of setting up a fund in Mike's honour related to fastball. He wants you to know he will be happy to donate to such a fund. 
 As you celebrate Mike's life, may your fond memories bring comfort and peace. Love ya.

I am sending my love and support to you all. Though I did not know him well, I do know what a rock and centre he was for you all. He was also fun to talk to, albeit briefly, almost every time I called the house!
May his memory be a blessing to you all. 

We are sending our warmest wishes and deepest condolences from across the country. We will miss uncle Mike deeply but more importantly we will share, treasure and celebrate our wonderful memories of him. I love that he called me "Shannie" for my entire life. His ability to strike a genuine, comfortable and close conversation after 2 months or 2 years was really special. And finally his smile and laugh were always authentic and generously shared.

My memories of Michael involve meeting with him on those occasions the past few summers, whenever I came to umpire men's fast pitch games in the North York Fastball League he was convenor along with being a team coach for many years.

I remember meeting Michael before my first ever umpired game in his league. That game and in subsequent games since, Michael always knew my name (considering the hundreds of players, coaches and umpires he knew over the years, I always admired that he was able to remember my name right away).

Michael complemented the performances in my games, which I always appreciated since I am not an experienced fast pitch umpire by training or experience. He always asked prior or during games on extremely hot summer evenings if I needed something to drink, and he made sure myself and if needed my umpiring partner were sufficiently quenched with bottled water drinks.

It may for some people be a small gesture in the scheme of things that occur in a fast pitch softball game. For me it displayed the common courtesy and caring that Michael was known for, whether you knew him for a couple hours on a softball diamond or more frequently as a family member or long time friend.

I only had one umpiring assignment fast pitch this summer, and recall talking briefly exchanged greetings with Michael. I had no indication that he had any serious health problems, and was shocked when I received an email from my umpiring Association indicating that he had passed away.

During August 2014 I recall myself along with several of my fellow North York Umpires Association umpires, umpiring an all day fastball tournament at Goulding Park. It involved over double digit teams of boys and girls from Toronto and around Ontario.

It was a perfect sunny but not too humid day. Michael and his good friend Seymour Cohen, who also worked with Michael in Fast Pitch softball,mixed in conversations with the numerous coaches, players, teams and fans along with answering questions relating to game schedules and other matters. 

Seeing a budding new generation of kids that day enjoy playing fast pitch softball -  rather than being indoors all day being on the computer -  is a great testament in my view to what Michael represented to the North York fast pitch softball playing community over his many years of involvement.

May the numerous family members and friends of Michael Scott be comforted in the coming weeks and months by the happy and enjoyable times and experiences he shared during his lifetime not only with all of you, but also with countless number of other individuals on and off the baseball diamond. 

I'm sure Michael is up in heaven busily devising and planning specific and special playing strategies, that will enable the Toronto Blue Jays to bring a World Series title back to this city after a 22 year absence.
