Norma Lillian Stephenson

Passed away peacefully on the afternoon of her 95th birthday, October 8, 2014 at Sunnybrook Hospital. She was the beloved wife of William Harry Stephenson who passed away on February 27, 2014 and the devoted mother of Carol Jane Stephenson Harpur and Janet Elizabeth Judge, grandmother to Matthew and Katryn Harpur and Alexander Judge. Mom was born on a farm near Kincaid, Saskatchewan to Minnie Matilda Harvie and Harry Ernest Helson, but she and her adored brothers Don and younger brother Harvie grew up in the Village of Warkworth, Ontario. It was there that she met the love of her life, the new and only teller at the Royal Bank. They became engaged before Dad went overseas with the RCAF. Mom diligently wrote Dad her newsy letters which Dad recalled were heavily censored for the almost three years he was in Stalag Luft III. It is amazing to us now, but Mom married Dad a few weeks after his return, in spite of the five years they were apart. Mom was Dad's love and best friend and in the past year or so as Dad's health declined she was also his caregiver and advocate. We already miss her laughter, original insights and constant caring ways. Many thanks to the supportive friends and staff at Canterbury Place where Mom and Dad lived this past year, the wonderful staff at Sunnybrook Hospital and especially to Sonia Ramos for her true friendship and gentle care. A funeral service will be held at R. S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St. (at Goulding, south of Steeles) on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Veterans K-Wing at Sunnybrook would be truly appreciated.
