Olivia Catherine Puddy

Peacefully on September 18th, 2008, in Toronto, in her 94th year. Dear wife of the late Edwin Puddy, cherished mother of Catherine Prowse (Russell) and Philip. Beloved Nanny to Richard, Stephanie and William. Predeceased by her siblings Charlie, Isabella, Jessie, Joe, Miles, Archie and Bob. Olivia was born in 1914 on the Elliott family homestead near Clive, Alberta. She married Edwin in Toronto in 1943, and together they built their Willowdale home at the edge of a farmer's field in 1952 and began their family. Widowed in 1966, Olivia's strong spirit, fierce independence and characteristic resourcefulness got her and her family through difficult times and made her an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a founding member of St. Patrick's Anglican Church near her home, where she continued to attend services until last year. The family wishes to thank the many people, including the Beart, Gretton, Lansing and Shields families, whose caring support over the years allowed Mom to continue to live in her beloved home until recent days. Thanks also to Dr. Jonathan Carr, to John Boyle and his staff at Homewell Senior Care for their kind attention to Mom as her health declined this summer, and to the staff at North York General Hospital 4W for their care and kindness during her final days. The family will receive friends at the R. S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St. at Goulding, south of Steeles) on Sunday from 2 - 5. Funeral service will be held at St. Patrick's Anglican Church, 1087 Lillian Street, North York, M2M 3G1, on Monday, September 22nd at 11 o'clock. Reception to follow. Private family interment. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
