Paul J. McCarthy

McCARTHY, Reverend Paul Joseph died in the Lord on August 5, 2009 at Southlake Hospital in his 67th year. Predeceased by his beloved parents Justin and Josephine, and his cherished brother Peter. Loving brother of Justin (Catherine) and Thomas (Katie May), and dear uncle of Martha, Peter, Patrick, Mary Jo, Justin and Paul. Father Paul was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 1967 at St. Michael's Cathedral by His Grace Archbishop Philip Pocock. A dedicated and devoted priest of the Archdiocese of Toronto, he served as Associate Pastor at St. Paul's Basilica, Toronto, St. John's, Toronto, St. Patrick's, Markham and St. Justin Martyr, Markham, and as Pastor at Our Lady of Grace, Aurora, St. Christopher's, Mississauga and Sacred Heart, Uxbridge.

Special thanks to the professional caregivers at Southlake Hospital in Newmarket, who treated Father Paul with loving care, respect and dignity. Also to the many friends, parishioners and priests whose prayers and visits were such a great support during his illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated on Monday, August 10, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 78 Clifton Road, (at St. Clair Avenue East, just west of Mt. Pleasant Road.) No visitation is planned. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, Toronto (416.221.1159)

In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to Participation House, Markham.

Father Paul's final journey was marked by his rock solid Faith, which shone like a beacon of Hope for all to see.
