She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters Naomi (Michael) Regan and Gayle Nakagawa. Phyllis is predeceased by her parents Sataro and Kiku Tanaka, and her siblings, Thomas, Herbert, June Beresford and Shirley Fujino. She is survived by her sister Yae Yamada. She will be deeply missed by all of her nieces and nephews and friends. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Phyllis was relocated during the Second World War to Lemon Creek Internment Camp. She was an excellent scholar, having graduated at the top of her Japanese School Class. Phyllis was an avid gardener, with an incredible "green thumb". She loved doing daily word search puzzles, watching TV (Dancing with the Stars and Young and the Restless were her favourites) and was known to her family and friends as the 'Shopping Channel Queen". She enjoyed Bunka (Japanese Embroidery) and Calligraphy. She loved spending her weekends, and holidays with her sister Shirley and her family, and especially enjoyed the Ballroom dancing they would partake in together. Friends may call on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the R. S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street (at Goulding south of Steeles). Service will be held on Friday November 14, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at the Toronto Buddhist Church, 1011 Sheppard Avenue West. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful Nurses and Doctors at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, and her family doctor Michael Law, for her ongoing care.
