Here is a wee prayer dedicated to a Special Aunt: My Dear Aunt Rae, We loved you so much. You've now gone and left us; As drastic as such. And each generation passes us by. Condolences from myself and my family.As the youngest scottish niece/cousin I didnt get to know the family very well,but I know the pain you are going through and will be thinking of you all at this difficult time.x

I didn't know Mrs. Browne very well, but when I did visit her home, she was always very welcoming and charming. I am happy she had such a long life, although it is always too soon to say goodbye to a loved one. She was the "matriarch" of her family, and she was very much loved by her children and grandchildren. Her life was meaningful and successful as far as family goes, I know. She was a tremendous help to Sarah early in her life and was a really positive, loving Grandma. Very sad to lose her, but she accomplished a great deal in her life and family, so she can definitely rest now!

We were so lucky to visit your mom in September 2011.

We roared up the street with 3 motorbikes all with the Aussie flags attached thinking Auntie would just love the noise, we had forgotten about her lack of hearing! Her neighbours all heard us but after ringing the front door bell with no answer we thought we would check the back yard (hoping of course that we did in fact have the right house) there she was watching Mass on TV but ever so happy to see us.

She had made us some lovely mince and tatties which was wonderful there is nothing like a home cooked meal when you are on the road.

One night we went out to a restuarant with your mom driving us there, that was some journey hadn't played corners in the back of a car for ages and glad she found a large parking space.

We loved her tea bags so before we left to continue our journey she insisted we take some along which did come in very handy, although she also wanted to load us up with other food but being limited on the bikes we had to decline.

It was very sad saying goodbye when we left as I hugged her she said "Don't you go hen you can catch up with them in Vancouver", she was just so SPECIAL.

We are just so grateful for the few days we had with your mom our thoughts are with you all and will be thinking of you all on Thursday. Like Brian we have shed a few tears as we will all really miss your beautiful mom.

Rae, Paul and Family

Your Mom/Gramma was a very special person - always kind, witty, funny and happy. She would get that elf like grin on her face and you knew she was up to something. She was fun to be around, had a zest for life, she will be greatly missed - I'm so glad that she was part of my life,I'll miss her very much God Bless you Gramma Rae - See you in Heaven!!

I've tried flights from Glasgow , Newcastle and Manchester and the earliest flight is from Glasgow on Thursday arriving in Toronto at 11.00am so I don't think I'll be there. I would have loved to have  been there to say goodbye to a wonderful woman who meant a lot to me ( God knows why ! )  .
 
For what it's worth , there are three recollections of your mother that stick in my memory :-
 
1. She persuaded my mother to install a chairlift in her home - using the persuasive comment of " well Alice , do you want to get a stairlift or do you want to go into a home ? " I organised the stairlift on my return from Canada and she now uses it-. She also sends her condolences - they socialised ( at my expense of course ) when your mum was over with yourself and Julian.
 
2.  I introduced your mother to the " litany of death " whereby she would sit in our dining area and read books on local history making comments like " that's so and so  - he's deid , that's insert name and gender - he's / she's deid and so on.
 
3. Where else in the world would an 80 + aged woman with a back brace and walking stick take a 50 + ( just ) man into a liquor store at 10.00 o'clock in the morning proudly saying to the assistant " get me the manager , this boy is from Scotland and is looking for beer ! "    . The manager was suitably summoned and I was presented with a large choice of beers to then be wheeled in a trolley , to the car by your mother and myself.
 
Nobody is perfect but your mother is your mother and she was fiercely protective of you all and her love for you all was always evident .. Unless the Baby Jesus sends me a helicopter ( after all it is his birthday soon ) I'll go to mass here on Thursday and remember a lovely wee woman who always had time ( and a sarcastic , but well loved ) remark for me.
 
I'm not normally an emotional person but the tears are running down my face as I type this ( maybe it's tears of fear if Kevin offers another canoeing trip ! ) . I loved your mum and realise the grief you are going through . I'm just glad that we were there earlier this year. Pray for her and stay strong for each other and keep together as a family . We will stay in touch.

57 Years of Memories. I first met Rae in 1954. We both worked at Simpsons in the greeting card department. When we started reading all those cards about family we had a good cry since we had just arrived from Scotland and Ireland. Rae bacame my best friend. When Rae and Joe went shopping Saturdays, I used to babysit the four children, Kathleen had not been born then. I loved those kids. Then, when I moved to California, we still kept in touch. When I got married Herb and I came to visit on our honeymoon. Later on Rae and Joe came to visit us in our new home. That picture you sent us was taken in our garden. Now I have lost my best friend, goodbye old friend until we meet again. Rae Kuner.
