The friendship between Rosaline and me was not cultivated in our younger days although we were both University of Hong Kong (HKU) alumni and former members of the Christian Association (CA) on campus. After all, we did not attend the same church or school; we majored in different subjects; we lived in different countries. The only thing we had in common was our faith, but God brought us together. By the time I entered HKU in 1961, Rosaline had already graduated, so I never had interactions with her while at HKU. The first time I conversed with her was in Patrick and Loretta Cheng's home in Ottawa, July 1970. Then we did not meet again until my short stay in Toronto, September to December 2008. I got her email address and phone number back ​in 2000 when I compiled a directory of HKUCA old-timers. Through a common friend, I heard of her interest in planning a reunion for HKUCA old-timers. Once I arrived in Toronto, ​I ​ contacted her and offered to work with her to design a questionnaire to survey old-timers' interest in a reunion held in Hong Kong some time in 2009. Through corresponding with her, meeting in restaurants, and visiting her in her home, I have come to admire her intelligence, excellent writing skills, attention to both detail and big picture, and holding high standards for herself as well as those who work with her, qualities that she tempered with warmth and wit. We passed back and forth multiple drafts of the questionnaire and later summary of results. Her feedback was always honest, but never​ disrespectful. One fond memory that has stayed with me is my visit to her comfortable townhouse. We enjoyed afternoon tea as we chatted about topics as wide ranging as classical music, travel, professional experience, spiritual journeys, and health issues. She shared with me the life-threatening ordeal she suffered earlier in 2008 due to the accidental rupture of her bowels during a routine colonoscopy. The title of the essay was "Grace Beyond Measure: A Story about a Scare and Two Scars." Like many who read it, I was deeply touched and inspired by her strong faith in God, tenacity, and humor in the face of adversity. After I left Toronto to return to Boston at the end of 2008, we continued to keep in touch via email and occasional phone calls. Throughout 2009, along with a few others, we worked on details of the HKUCA reunion and later, on the development of a website for HKUCA old-timers. To my delight, she accepted my invitation to serve on a small informal work-group to give me advice on the launching and maintenance of the website. As webmaster, I have sought--and received--wise counsel from her many times. After receiving news of her passing, I felt compelled to review our email correspondence. Once again I was struck by the tremendous support and encouragement she gave me. Often she signed off her message with "Keep up the good work, pal!" What a blessing it is to have known her in a way that was not possible--or even imaginable--when we were younger. I celebrate her life but I will miss her!

Rosaline was a dear sister in Christ. Over the years, She used her gift in linguistics and served the Lord diligently and faithfully. Besides translating articles from Chinese to English for our English congregation, she edited the English articles for the 25th Anniversary Publication of RHCCC. She was a valuable team member of the editorial team and she will be sadly missed.

Rosaline is no more. Our beautiful memories of her, however, shall overcome time and stay with us. Remember the opening verse of The Holy City: "No Shadow Yonder"? This is what's on my mind at this moment. Andrew and Nancy

It is very sad news indeed! We could not believe the sudden death of Rosie. . . On the evening of February 7th Rosaline sent us an e-mail about . . . And she died in her sleep on the 8th! It did take us a while to accept the news. But on second thought, at our age, who would not wish for such a comfortable passing onto the bosom of God! We are content that Rosaline is safe with our Lord! . . . God has spared Rosaline from that dreadful passage of departure. Let us bow down before our Lord. It is with shock that I hear of Rosaline's passing . . . It was not too long ago that I re-connected with her at Cheung Chau Isalnd for our HKUCA reunion. Images of her are still very fresh in my mind ,. . John Lam

It is with great sadness that we learned of Rosaline's passing. From the time of our first encounter during the CA years, she had been a good and trusted friend willint to put herself out to help others. After the CA years, we met again in London when we pursued higher studies. She was the one who took Amy (in fiance then) and I to hear Dr. Martin Llyod-Jones preached. . . All these years, a span of over 50 years, she remained to be our good and loyal friend, a faithful sister in Christ. He unswerving and steadfast follower of Jesus is an inspiration to Amy and I. Her sudden passing is indeed a shock to us. We certainly will miss her terribly for a long time to come, but we are also comforted by the fact that she passed away peacefully without suffering and is now in a far better place with Christ. I am so very sorry that I will no longer be seeing Rosaline tending her lovely garden. It was a real pleasure greeting her and having a chat about neighbourhood activities and flowers. She was such a pleasant lady and will be sorely missed by everyone. My condolences go out to the family of this wonderful woman.
