Ruth Hohenstein

Passed away peacefully at Cummer Lodge on Friday April 27, 2012 in her 80th year. Beloved wife of the late Hermann Hohenstein (1977). Loving mother of Peter Hohenstein (Mary Drake) and Brenda Hohenstein - Rosenberg (Edward). Dear grandmother of Renee, Trisha, Natalie and Brett. Ruth was born in Bremen, Germany in the year 1932. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 21 yrs sailing abroad on board the "Arosa Star". She first settled in Winnipeg later moving to Toronto. In Toronto she met Hermann Hohenstein who she married and had her 2 children with. Hermann passed at the early age of 50 years. She bravely carried on raising her children. Ruth worked hard and provided her children with great love, strength and courage. Never did a mother love her children with such passion, providing the care of both mother and father to both of them. Her 20 year battle with Alzheimer's is now over and she is finally released from her suffering and is herself again, watching over all of us; her health and mind restored. Resting at R. S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St. North York, where the family will receive friends from 9 - 10 am on Wednesday May 2, 2012. The funeral service will follow in the chapel beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at York Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, in memoriam contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
