Sister Irene McDonald

Died peacefully at St. Joseph's Morrow Park on Friday, March 20, 2009 in the sixty-first year of her religious life. She is the daughter of Mary Isabella Jordan and Thomas Joseph McDonald. She is survived by her sister Patricia and her brothers John, Bernard and Patrick. Her sisters Josephine, Gertrude and Frances predeceased her. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, close friends and colleagues. Sister Irene taught in the school of nursing at St. Michael's Hospital until she was appointed Director of Nursing at St. Michael's. After leaving her position there, she then worked with the Basilian Fathers for five years. Following this, she was asked to write a history of the hospital For the Least of My Brethren which was a fitting closure to her many years of service there. Her wake will be held at St. Joseph's Convent, 3377 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, from 3:30 pm on Tuesday, March 24 with a prayer vigil at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 25 at 10:30 am with Fr. Richard Macdonald SJ presiding, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
