She always loved a good fight. After wrestling with cancer for 5 years, she died peacefully at home on November 21, 2009 holding hands with Rod, her high school sweetheart & husband of 39 years. She was surrounded by family: Julie & Michael, Trish & Rob, & grandchildren Jake, Rylie & Morgan. A loyal & bossy wife, she had reluctantly given up making Dad's lunches but was still insisting on ironing his shirts. A model parent, she believed in honesty, withering looks & spoiling us rotten. A doting Nana, she showered the kids with attention and stocked an awesome junk food drawer. She was predeceased by parents Patsy & Ed Bean, and will be missed by siblings Ed & Deb, Tim & Reta, Brad & Lynn, and Trish, and by nieces & nephews Allan, Sinclair, Devon, Graeme & Marielle. An avid reader (especially smut), passionate crossworder, consummate party animal, natural swimmer & slo-pitch player, fierce board game competitor, June Cleaver bridge club member and renowned backseat driver, she was, a no-nonsense friend with a wonderful sense of humour. Thanks to Dr. Janet Morse, nurses & staff for your care. Friends can join us at 3 p.m. on Friday November 27 at R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St., at Goulding, south of Steeles) for a celebration of Steph's life. Cremation. Flowers unwelcome; as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Lifesaving Society.
