Passed peacefully to his heavenly resting place on Sunday, August 30, 2015 in his 93rd year. Born in Twickenham, England, he grew up between the two World Wars, travelling to India in 1947 as part of a Himalayan medical mission based at Shimla, but active in Tibet. Six years later, Peter came to Canada for further training at Wycliffe College, Toronto (Class of 1956) where he fell in love and married Ruth (nee Roberts, d. 2008), herself the daughter of Indian missionary parents.
Peter and Ruth returned to India, where Peter was ordained and appointed priest-in-charge of All Saints, Srinigar, with the whole of Kashmir as his parish. Returning to Canada after six wonderful years in northern India, Peter and Ruth served first at St. Paul's Bloor Street, and subsequently at St. Peter's Erindale and the Church of St. Timothy, North Toronto.
Peter will be greatly missed by his family and all that knew him: his daughter Deborah and grandchildren Valerie and Michael Lamb, and in particular by his devoted son Stephen Westcott Gratton. We will always cherish his memory, and give thanks to God who gave him to us, and now in his mercy has gathered him into his everlasting arms. Special thanks to loving brother-in-law Dr. Paul Roberts, dear niece Elizabeth (Roberts) Kikuchi and her family, and Dr. Adam Lynde.
The burial and thanksgiving service for Peter will be held at the Cathedral Church of St. James', 65 Church St. (at King), Toronto at 3:30pm on Wednesday, 2 September 2015. Private interment at York Cemetery
