Betty Jean Cottrell, 90, of Northglenn, CO, passed away August 7, 2025. Born January 11, 1935, in Salida, CO, she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was also a gifted seamstress whose handcrafted clothing, quilts, and crochet Afghans brought comfort and warmth to many.
Her skills and artistry also shone in creating beautiful gowns for life’s most cherished moments. In later years she enjoyed knitting newborn baby hats with her church friends, donating them to Neonatal Intensive Care Units.
At age 18, Betty was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a significant step that reflected her lifelong devotion to faith. She met her husband in church, and for 55 years they grew together in service to the Lord and others.
Faith guided every chapter of Betty’s life. She cared for others with genuine selflessness, welcomed missionaries from abroad into her home, and offered comfort, counsel, and encouragement to anyone in need. Her example of devotion, compassion, and quiet strength touched all who knew her.
Betty’s warm and generous spirit was also evident in the many family gatherings she lovingly hosted over the years, creating lasting memories cherished by all who attended.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and James Roney, and her beloved husband, Milton Lee Cottrell (d. 2008). Betty is survived by her brother, Larry Roney, her four children, Allen Cottrell (Joanna), Glenda Cottrell (Larry), William Cottrell (Brenda), and Michelle Kautz (Thomas), and her foster daughter Betty Gould. Her legacy continues through ten grandchildren: Amy (Jim) Thoming, Katie (Justin) Shobe, Christine (Matt) Westmoreland, Jesse (Jillian) Cottrell, Isabella (Tanner) Aurand, Victoria Cottrell, Amber (Joey) Brecheisen, Thomas Kautz, Andrew Kautz, and Kristen Kautz; and eleven cherished great-grandchildren: Brayden Thoming, Aubrey Thoming, Phoenix Shobe, Elijah-Grey Shobe, Ryder Westmoreland, Kayden Westmoreland, Mason Westmoreland, Jacob Cottrell, Addyson Brecheisen, Madden Brecheisen, and Onyx Brecheisen.
