

Betty Jenkins, 89, a longtime resident of Northglenn, Colorado, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Louisville, Colorado on Saturday February 21, 2015 surrounded by family. She had been in failing health for several years prior to her death.
Betty was born on September 30, 1925 in Richmond, Kansas to Calvin Scott and Faye (Sisler) Powelson. Her mother died when Betty was 6 years old. She was raised on a dairy farm near Richmond, Kansas by her father and stepmother, Edna Brown, along with her 5 siblings. Betty graduated from Garnett High School in Garnett, Kansas. In 1945 she left home and moved to Kansas City and worked at Bosch Embroidery. She married Paul Dee Jenkins on December 15, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri. They moved to Overland Park, Kansas and Betty worked at Westinghouse Aircraft Gas Turbine Engine Division in Kansas City. The family also lived in Topeka and Shawnee Mission, Kansas. In 1966 the family moved to Northglenn, Colorado.
Betty had a strong work ethic and enjoyed gardening, yard work, cooking, sewing and working on household projects. She had a soft spot for animals and people in need.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Dee Jenkins in 1996, parents; Calvin Scott and Faye (Sisler) Powelson, siblings; Richard Sisler Powelson, Mary Jane (Powelson) French, John Scott Powelson and Scott Powelson, Jr.
Betty is survived by her daughter and husband, Joni and Randall King of Louisville, Colorado, granddaughter and husband, Lauren and Sean Haumesser of Lyons, Colorado, step-daughter and husband, Dorinda and John Lendennie of Conway, Arkansas, step-granddaughter and husband, Alicia and Jeff Cantrell, step-great grandchildren, Allee and Aaron Cantrell of Alexandria, Louisiana, sister and husband, Patricia and Kerry Atwood of Niangua, Missouri, sister in-law Delma (Feuerborn) Powelson of Memphis, Tennessee, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
