Chris was born on May 3, 1943, in Santa Monica, California, to Janet Amburn and Leo Mary. He grew up alongside his brother Leo Mary Jr. and graduated high school. On August 15, 1960, Chris enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving for 2 years and 9 months as a deckhand aboard an icebreaker traveling in the Arctic and Antarctic. Chris was honorably discharged for his service. His time in the Navy was marked by determination, resilience, and a strong sense of loyalty—values that remained central to who he was.
After his military service, Chris embraced a life filled with craftsmanship, camaraderie, and quiet generosity. An avid woodworker, Chris had a true gift for building and restoring with care and creativity. He crafted everything from rocking chair arms to custom shelving and refinished furniture to bring out its original beauty. He often followed along with Woodworker’s Journal projects, including intricate pieces like Chinese puzzle boxes, just for the love of the craft.
Chris also had a deep passion for cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed countless road trips with friends on his bike and was a familiar face at local car shows across Arvada and Golden Colorado, including the Golden Super Cruise and the Applebee’s shows in Lakewood Colorado. One of his major projects was helping restore a vintage Willys-Knight sedan—a labor of love shared with a friend.
Known for his practicality and generosity, Chris had a knack for fixing things and improving the world around him. He renovated parts of his home, built shelves for garages, and was always ready to lend a hand with home or automotive projects. He believed in using his hands, his heart, and his time to help others—and he did so often.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents, Janet and Leo Mary. He is survived by his brother, Leo Mary Jr. Chris is also survived by many close friends and loved ones in Colorado who will miss his presence, wisdom, handiness, and generous spirit.
A service will be held for Chris on Friday June 27, 2025 10:00AM-10:30AM at Fort Logan Cemetery, Staging Area C. The address is 4400 W Kenyon Ave Denver, CO 80236.
