It is with our deepest sorrow to announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Dan Khau Tang, on August 22, 2025, due to cancer. Taken from us too soon, his life demonstrated his incredible work ethic, his incomparable sense of humour, and most importantly, his exceptional generosity.
Dan first came to America when he was 20 years old in 1982, and began working in the restaurant industry. Through hard work and a passion for making quality food, he took ownership of Heaven Dragon in 1991. Known for his lively and welcoming spirit, Dan was always excited to greet his customers with a smile and a handshake. Heaven Dragon and its accomplished owner Dan became well known in the community, but he never lost sight about what mattered to him the most, his family.
Dan, the second eldest of 6 brothers, was the first member of the family to make the journey to America. His love and dedication to support his family was his motivation in everything he did. He was always brave enough to take on new opportunities, and put in the endless hours of work to support his loved ones. Through his success, he was able to help the rest of his family immigrate to the United States and they remain an inseparable family to this day. Dan was the husband to Ying, and father to Victor, Tracy, and Audrey, whom he loved deeply and worked tirelessly through the years to support. He was incredibly proud of his family and never hesitated to show it. Outside of his immediate family, he was always there to support his siblings and their families whenever needed. He was always eager to celebrate everyone in the family, whether it was a birthday or a graduation, he jumped on the opportunity to throw and cater a party to commemorate the occasion.
His generosity was not just reserved for his loved ones. Even with all the love he had for his family, he also had love for his community. Through the Heaven Dragon Scholarship he helped students in local schools pay for higher education, while his restaurants provided opportunities to other family members looking to create a similar life for themselves in America. He was so proud to see how far everyone has come, and the success they have seen in opening their own businesses. He was also proud to share his culture with the community by hosting Chinese New Year celebrations at the restaurant.
Outside of the restaurant Dan enjoyed WWE, even attending several matches in person with his family. He had a strong sweet tooth, often enjoying Cinnabon, Sara Lee poundcakes, or drumsticks with his kids, nieces, and nephews. He was always at the center of family gatherings and celebrations, and his family would always know when he arrived with his joyous laugh.
Dan passed away with his loving wife Ying at his side. He will be remembered by his family as a dedicated, hard working father who never failed to support his family. He was the light in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his passing left a void in the hearts of his family and friends. Dan left quite the legacy, and many members of his community will remember for his unending generosity, and the incredible things he made possible through his dedication and passion for giving back.
We cannot begin to express how grateful we are to our family who supported us throughout this journey. We appreciate the continuous support and kind words from loved ones, and will forever cherish those that never left our sides.
