Don was born on October 3, 1942, along with his twin brother Ronald, in Denver Colorado. They joined their parents, Earl and Nellie Stockley and their older sister Barbara, who was 2 at the time. He grew up in Denver, lived in Commerce City, Thornton, and Federal Heights.
On May 6, 1967, he married the love of his life Margaret Ann Urban. Together they had two daughters. Deanna (son-in-law Theodore (Ted) Zakrzewski) and Michelle (son-in-law Robert Shaw). Don had 5 grandchildren, who we are pretty sure he loved more than his daughters. Kortney Zakrzewski (Charles Cambridge), Brittany (Stockley) Harfst (Brian Harfst), Robert Shaw Jr (Karla Shaw), Theodore (Teddy) Zakrzewski (Mariah Hilton) and Laryssa Shaw (Michael Comacho). And Don had 8 great grandchildren. Taylynn Harfst, Avery Vigil, Addilynn and Harlynn Harfst, Leilani Lacey, Corvus Revello, Xander Lacey and Callum Zakrzewski.
Don had several jobs in his lifetime. He worked for both Safeway and King Soopers. He worked at a meat packing company. He worked for the City of Commerce City. He worked part time at a liquor store. He worked at an ink printing company named Litho Tech. But what he was most proud of was being a volunteer fire fighter for South Adams County.
You rarely seen Don without a smile on his face. He was always happy. He was always joking, no matter how inappropriate it was. He was the kind of person that would do anything for anyone and would never expect anything in return. It didn't matter how busy he was or how bad he felt, if you called, he came running.
He loved the Denver Broncos, bowling, and playing poker. Those are also the only three things that would ever make him mad. And he loved to tell stories of past experiences. He would never tell the same twice. But the stories the grandkids were told totally different. Let's just say his imagination ran wild on those.
Don was surrounded by his entire family that last 2 weeks of his life. But the night of his passing he had his wife Margaret of 57 years, and his youngest granddaughter Laryssa by his side. He leaves behind his wife, daughters, son-in-laws, grandkids and great grandkids, along with his sister Barb, his nephews Galen, Marlen, Jeff and Ronnie and his nieces Shelly and Jessica. Along with countless other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nellie and Earl Stockley, his twin brother Ron Stockley, his grandparents, in-laws, brother-in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Thank you to all that have sent love and prayers during this difficult time. It has meant so much to Don's family!
