Dorothy was born August 13, 1927 in Longmont, Colorado to the late Edna Mae and Ted Hulstrom. She was one of 10 siblings born to this union.
After graduating from Lafayette High school, Dorothy attended Barnes Business college. Dorothy married Hixon Elliott and together started building their home in 1952. They would often comment “we’re built into these walls.” For many years Dorothy hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve for her family, with upwards of 100 people attending every year. She was an avid bowler, traveling with Hixon cross-country to bowling tournaments. One of Dorothy‘s proudest accomplishments was she was cofounder of the beloved Bal Swan Children’s center and a faithful member for over 60 years of the Broomfield United Methodist church.
Dorothy was a kind, generous lady who loved God and family above all else. She will be sorely missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hixon, son Douglas, a brother Ted (Nancy) Hulstrom, and 4 sisters Bertha (Eugene) Barnett, Lucille (Quentin) Barnett, Joyce (Bill) DiTirro, and June (Harold)Olson. She is survived by daughters Jan Elliott, Charlene (Jim) Jakicic, one brother Roland (Judy) Hulstrom, and 3 sisters, Darlene Lewis, Lois (Larry) Smith, and Phyllis (Darryl) Lewis and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 23 from 3-7 p.m. with a graveside service Wednesday, March 24 at 11:00 am. Both will be held at Olinger Highland Mortuary in Thornton. Due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions masks will be required.
In lieu-of-flowers donations may be made to the Bal Swan Children’s Center at balswan.org or 1145 E. 13th Ave, Broomfield, CO 80020.
