Hatsue was born on January 21, 1922 in Ft. Lupton, CO to her parents, Gonzaburo and Isano Takeyasu. She lived her early childhood years in Ft. Lupton until age 11 then returned to Japan with her family. However, Hatsue returned to the US at age 19 to start her new adventures. In 1948, she met her husband, Jimmy Mikuni in Greely, CO and they started their lives together in Denver. She was an extraordinary seamstress and worked for a western wear company. She then worked for Cobe Laboratories for the rest of her career, assembling medical equipment. Hatsue and Jimmy loved to travel and had many trips together to Hawaii, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, the northeast, and many other places. Hatsue enjoyed her needlework club and has many fine pieces of crochet and knitting, as well as smocking and lace. In her later years, she loved going on bus rides from her assisted living facility at The Gardens at St. Elizabeth and then at Brookshire House. She was always looking for the next bus ride!
Hatsue is survived by her four nieces and nephews, Joyce Takeyasu, Denver, CO, Naomi Scrivener, Florence, TX, John Takeyasu, Melbourne, FL and Mitchell Ikari, Alameda, CA; her sisters, Mitsue Ikari, Kailua, HI and Suyeko Yanaura and her husband, Kazumi, Georgetown, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Mikuni; her brothers, Motoi Takeyasu and George Takeyasu, brother-in-law, Sueto Ikari and sister-in-law, Toshiko Takeyasu.
Hatsue will be buried at Olinger Highland Cemetery in Thornton, CO with a private service to follow at a later date. The family wants to thank everyone involved with her care for the past 11 years whether it was in her facility at The Gardens at St. Elizabeth, Brookdale, and Brookshire House, private caregivers, outside professionals, hospice and friends dropping by for a visit.
We especially want to thank Sue Grounds of Denver Home Care Solutions, Debbie Wilden and Linda Ream who had spent several years with her, giving her love and support. She was truly blessed with a good life!
