Jamie was preceded in death by her mother Jacklyn Ann Mohn, father Jamie Thompson, and sister Lori Penna. She is survived by her husband John O’Brien, mother-in-law Linda Hodge, sister-in-law Darrah Hodge, daughters Amber and Michelle, and 7 grandchildren Bella, Delilah, Kannon, Holden, Mason, Easton, and Madelyn who will never forget the love and light she brought to their lives.
From a very young age she loved music and even performed in her younger years before having children. She would say how her mother said she danced and sang before she walked and talked. When her daughters were about 8 and 4, Jamie obtained her cosmetologist license and began practicing her talents right away. She was an amazing hair stylist and her daughters enjoyed being her guinea pigs as new products and styles hit the market. She was very talented. A highlight of her career was opening a very successful salon in Boulder, CO with her stepsister. She worked hard to take care of her daughters all by herself.
Then it was in Boulder that she ended up meeting John and the rest is history as they remained together till the end of her days. She also became an avid gardener and this became even more prevalent when John and Jamie decided to leave the suburbs and purchase a farm with land. Her garden was quite impressive on the farm.
She was a wonderful mother creating a safe and fun space for her girls. She was an even more amazing grandmother. The love she had for the grandkids was unprecedented and you could see that in every interaction they had, and by the love the grandkids have for her. She really lived for her family and those relationships. She will truly be missed and is leaving us with an unfillable void. We can only hope to love as hard as she did, she will be greatly missed.
~ From her Daughter, Amber
A few words about Jamie Lyn, my Wife. She was a single mother for many years. She had two children, Amber Lee, and Michelle Linn. She went through beauty school to make a better life for her children. She worked as a hairstylist for long hours to provide for her children, which meant the world to her. Was she perfect, no, but she did it all on her own for many years. She remarried, and years later became a grandmother. That is where she shined in life. She adored all of her grandchildren and spent as much time with them as possible. Her grandchildren loved her like a mother, building a beautiful bond that will last beyond this lifetime. Watching her with the grandchildren was heartwarming, she gave them her full attention, and spoiled them as often as she could. She will be missed for the beautiful person she was, but will never be forgotten. God called her back to heaven, but one day we will reunite with her, and begin again where we left off.
~From her Husband, John
My mom was always someone I could call or go to for the best advice—a listening ear, support, or a shoulder to cry on. Ever since I was small, I looked at her as my superhero. I learned so much from her: how to work hard, how to be silly and goofy, how to have a great sense of humor, and how to sing and dance.
She taught us how to grow a garden, cook amazing meals, and can pickles. She showed us how to take care of our grandmas and taught us that family is so important. These are just some of the many memories I will hold close.
For me, she will live on as I look at my children and see the impact she had on them. I will hear her in every musical and see her dancing and singing in my mind when one of her favorite songs comes on. I will miss her laugh, her beautiful smile, and her warm hugs that always seemed to piece me back together—especially when I was falling apart.
I know that now she will be with us as we travel this journey called life, guiding us, protecting us, and cheering us on.
~From her Daughter, Michelle
