Janine was born in Orange, New Jersey on March 26, 1963. Her parents were Eugene Slowinski and Helen Majewksi. Janine was the youngest of 5 and the smartest of the bunch. In high school, she was a straight A student, graduating at the top of her class, and was appointed the honorary Governor of New Jersey for a day. She was admitted to Harvard, but chose to attend Northwestern University where she completed both college and medical school in 6 years. Janine always looked young for her age. This could be a problem for a 24-year-old doctor. One patient wanted to know why the candy striper was asking so many technical questions. She was a Board certified Radiologist and a partner in Diversified Radiology. Janine loved languages. She spoke fluent English and Spanish. She could hold a conversation in French and Italian.
Since contracting ovarian cancer four and one half years ago, Janine worked tirelessly for the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance (COCA). In the Patients Teaching Students Program, she mentored medical students and shared her wisdom through the perspective of both a patient and physician.
Janine belonged to many organizations, but her favorite was Brighton Sister Cities of which she was one of the founding members. This group has a sister city in Poland and she visited there many times.
She lived a deeply spiritual life. She loved St. Joseph’s Polish Church. She traveled with a choir that sang for Pope Benedict in Rome. Her relationship with God was a source of inspiration to all. Words cannot describe how much she was loved by her husband – Neil Fleischauer, daughter – Heather Pagnozzi, son – Thomas Pagnozzi, mother – Helen Marusyn, stepfather – Walter Marusyn, sisters – Laura Bruckner, Helen Sax, Manya Albertson and brother Gene Slowinski.
Janine passed away on Monday morning, January 10, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, Janine has a simple request; kiss your children goodnight.
Any donations should be given to COCA (Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance).
A visitation will be held Friday, 6-7pm followed by a 7pm Rosary at Highland Mortuary, 10201 N Grant St, Thornton. Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, 11am, St. Joseph Polish, 517 E 46th, Denver.
Janine will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be forever in our hearts and in our minds. Arrangements under the direction of Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, Thornton, CO.
