Justin Lawrence Carlson, 43, of Wheatridge, Colorado left this earth on Friday, March 12, 2021 due to health problems. He was born on June 8, 1977 In Marysville, California to Charles Carlson and Marilyn Ellsworth. Justin spent his early years in California. He was very close to his grandparents, Lawrence and Dorothy Ellsworth, and spent a lot of time with them. His first passion was skateboarding and he was good at it. He always had to have to the newest and most up-to-date skateboard. In 1986, when Justin was 9, his step-father, who was in the Air Force, received orders sending all of us to England. Justin attended both Woodbridge Elementary school and Woodbridge High School. It was in England when he started getting interested in playing the drums. He got to travel a lot with his parents. They traveled all over England and also to Scotland, Wales, and took a road trip through Europe. He always remembered his time in England with really fond memories. In 1991 he and his family returned to the States and settled in Grass Valley, California. Justin attended Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley. He joined band and took every opportunity he could to play the drums. He was in concert band, jazz band, marching band and spirit band. The jazz band played at Universal Studios in Florida and went to a competition in Hawaii where they won first place. Justin graduated from Nevada Union High School, Grass Valley in 1995.
Justin married Aimee Chesbrough in Reno, Nevada in 1999 the same year his son Cylis was born. They divorced in 2004. He moved to Westminster, Colorado in 2004. He attended Broomfield United Methodist Church and played drums in the church band. It was during a church trip that he met his future wife Cody Lynn Green. They married in 2009 in St Pete Beach, Florida. They settled in Denver. Cody was the love of Justin’s life. He told me and others so many times how much he regretted their breakup. He felt so bad for the events that led to their breakup and always wished he could have gone back and done things differently.
Justin’s passion was music and his ultimate passion was being a drummer. He was a drummer in many bands. Too many bands to list here. He also taught himself to play guitar. He passed his love of music on to his son, Cylis. He also loved animals, baseball and loved to travel. He worked in a variety of jobs. His favorite was being a Vet Assistant. His most recent job was working as a delivery driver.
Justin loved his son Cylis more than words can ever express. He was so proud to be his father and said that Cylis was his greatest accomplishment. Justin always tried so hard to do the right thing. He loved to help people and would give someone the shirt off his back. He had a truly kind heart.
He is survived by his son Cylis Carlson of Arvada, mother Marilyn Ellsworth Brown and her husband Irvin Brown of Westminster, father Charles Carlson of California, step-father Joseph Mike Liszak of California, grandmother Mary Pat Downing of Nevada, aunt Sherry Ellsworth Cobbold of Indiana, many cousins and hundreds of friends.
There will be a memorial service in April. More information will be coming out about the date and place.
