Katelyn Renée Sweeney was born on Monday, November 14th, 2005 in Lafayette, CO to loving parents, Jason and Lisa Sweeney. She was a beloved sibling to her big sister, Whitney, and big brother, Tayler, and loving aunt to her nephew, Landon. Katelyn was a beloved granddaughter to her Meme & Papa, Cindy & Bill Harvey, and grandma & grandpa, Loretha & Howard Sweeney. She was a sophomore at Standley Lake High School in Westminster, CO.
Katelyn filled her short time on this earth in a big way. Katelyn was beautiful inside and out, and her deep brown eyes were always expressive. She was a daddy’s girl that often displayed a subtle smirk to the world just like her father. She loved cooking like her mother (but with onion) even though she would become impatient and eat her potatoes before they were completely done. Katelyn loved shopping therapy with her sister, even if they didn’t buy anything. She loved riding four-wheelers with her brother as they raced around the fields at her aunt and uncle’s house.
While she often appeared shy and reserved, Katelyn was a ferocious defender of those she loved. Katelyn would never allow anyone to speak down to them, and would go on the attack even before she knew the whole story. Katelyn’s friends were always one of her priorities and she would sacrifice anything for them, even occasionally facing her parents’ wrath for choosing to support them over going to class.
Katelyn loved camping and the outdoors, she rode in her first airplane and swam in the Atlantic (despite all of the seaweed in the water), and she learned to drive with her big sister. Katelyn loved her own sense of fashion, from ripped jeans, make-up, and eyelashes…. so many eyelashes.
Katelyn will be forever loved.
Memorial Service for Katelyn will be Wednesday, March 9, 2022, 4:30pm at Victory Church, 11777 Sheridan Boulevard, Westminster, CO.
Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well.
