Kathryn Elizabeth Welsh, (95), passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 after enduring three months of medical issues that took her in and out of multiple hospitals including repair of a broken right arm and multiple rib fractures after a fall and also several extended stays in rehab facilities and finally ending up in an assisted living facility where she finally passed away comfortably.
She was born Kathryn Elizabeth Byers on November 24, 1926 in Denver, Colorado to Joseph A. Byers and Grace M.(Wolf) Byers. Kathy had an older sister, Frances and younger sister Mary, both deceased. She married Robert (Bob) Arthur Welsh, Jr. in Globeville in 1948. They lived and had their two children at a home in east Denver. In March 1965, they moved to Northglenn, Colorado, where they established their lifelong home.
Kathy began working for American Motors in 1955. She enjoyed her career as an administrative assistant for a total of 34 years. It was at American Motors that Kathy made many lifetime friends and had fond memories. In her retirement years, Kathy stayed active as the secretary of the Northglenn senior organization for four years.
A true sense of “family and tradition” was always a priority for Kathy. It pleasured her to host many family reunions, every immediate family member’s birthday, and holiday gatherings. She enjoyed the role of wife, mom, sister, step-sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Each family member would be greeted with a big smile, a kiss, and a hug. Yes, she loved her family and was truly only “a phone call away” to listen to either the joys or worries of her family members. She had a “heart of gold” that was extended to everyone she loved and met.
Bob passed away in May 1997, so Kathy had to learn a new life and routine that could bring her daily happiness. Family, friends, and neighbors surrounded her with love and encouragement. Her neighbor, Paul (Gene) Lucero, gave her a new perspective on life and a sense of some travel adventure as well as companionship. Kathy enjoyed her years traveling and daily time and talks with Gene.
She is survived by her sons, Larry Welsh (Sherry Dimick), and Randy (Debbie) Welsh; her five grandchildren, Terry (Laura) Welsh, Sr., Laura Welsh, Jeff (Dusty) Welsh, Lisa Castillo (Welsh), and Mark Welsh (Savannah Ellis); and six great-grandchildren, Tierra Thirsk, Brooke Welsh, Emerson Welsh, Kayli Welsh, Terry Welsh, Jr and Raynlee Welsh. Kathy is also survived by her step-brother, Ron (Gwen) Hutchin; step-sister, Sharon Hutchin; niece, Carole Ann Boshell; and nephew, John Raabe.
For all who knew Kathy, she will be missed for her grace, smile, tell it like it is demeanor, love and never-ending support.
A committal service for Kathryn will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2022, 11:00 AM at Olinger Highland Cemetery, 10201 Grant Street, Thornton, CO 80229.
In lieu of flowers, it was her wish to donate to the American Cancer Association, https://www.cancer.org
Excerpt from “When Tomorrow Starts Without Me”, By Erica Shea Liupaeter
“When tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an Angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I’d have to leave behind,
All those I dearly love.
But when I walked through Heaven’s gates,
I felt so much at home, when God looked
Down and smiled at me, and told me
“Welcome Home”.
He said, “This is eternity and all I’ve promised you.
Today for life on earth is past, but here it starts anew.
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I’m right here, in your heart.”
