Laura Lynn Coles (Sango) was born to Lee and Della Coles on December 8, 1961, in Washington, D.C. She graduated from William McKinley Technical High School and Lemuel Penn Center. Upon acceptance, she moved to Denver, Colorado to attend Regis University. There she met and married Errol Sango and from that union, her only child, Alicia Marshe Sango was born.
Laura began her professional career with the city and county of Denver, Colorado. Upon retirement, she worked at Comcast, where she met her life partner and husband, Jesus Botello. Together they enjoyed going to the casinos, visiting family and friends and caring for each other.
From a young age, Laura’s life was filled with music and creativity. She fondly remembered visiting her grandmother, who played the piano—a memory that stayed with her throughout her life. As an adult, she often asked for a piano for Christmas, and when she finally received an electric keyboard, she taught herself as best she could, even if her curiosity eventually led her to her next project waiting to be discovered.
Laura was a woman who never stood still. Her hands and heart were always busy—whether modifying blankets, learning quilting, crafting children’s clothes, or creating personalized gifts with her Cricut machine. She poured her energy into each project with excitement and joy before eagerly moving on to the next creative adventure. Laura loved giving away personalized gifts, especially to the technicians at her Davita dialysis center during Christmas time. She did everything with love, generosity, and a genuine desire to brighten someone else’s day.
Above all, Laura’s greatest joy in life was her daughter, Alicia. Their bond was more than just mother and daughter, they were best friends, inseparable in heart and spirit. Laura raised Alicia in church and played a profound role in nurturing her relationship with God. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she passed that spiritual strength on to her daughter through prayer, teaching, and example. Laura and Alicia loved their all-day shopping trips, going to church and talking on the phone for hours multiple times a day. Although Alicia was an only child, she was a bonus mom to her friends Rachel and Carrie, who she loved dearly and always enjoyed when they were around. Laura loved children and was excited for her bonus grandkids Zephaniah, DJ, CJ and Kyla. She loved to take them with her on access-a-ride to hang out and find fun activities to do.
Laura’s friendly and outgoing personality made her unforgettable. She had a way of connecting with people, listening to their stories, and sharing pieces of her own spirit along the way. Anyone who met her would quickly learn how special, creative, and loving she truly was.
Laura is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Della Coles and her brother Roderick Coles. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter Alicia, husband Jesus, her siblings Lee Coles, Louisville, KY and Shelly Coles, Washington, D.C. and a host of family members and friends.
Laura Coles-Sango lived a life marked by love, faith, creativity, passion and compassion. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her—and especially in the heart of the daughter she loved more than anything.
