Marcelina (Marcie) Martinez, 91 years old, a Colorado Native and recent resident of Tucson, AZ, entered into heaven on January 27, 2022. Marcie was born February 6, 1930 to Eduardo and Agapita Martinez in Capulin, CO.
She was raised in Alamosa, CO, on the family ranch, The Martinez Cattle Company, where she learned a strong work ethic at a young age. On October 30, 1948, she married her soulmate, Ned Martinez, in Monte Vista, CO. Shortly after establishing a family, they continued their story moving to Thornton, CO. Marcie was a devoted mother to 5 children and often took in her nieces, nephews, and siblings when they were in need, raising her nephews as her own. She worked diligently to provide for her family, retiring from Safeway after 25 dedicated years. Following retirement, she continued working and volunteering her time to her community.
Marcie will be remembered as our Matriarch; a strong, selfless woman with the heart of a saint who proved faithful to her Catholic religion and family. She loved being in the mountains on camping trips or gambling up in Blackhawk. Later in life, she found a love for cruises she could enjoy with family and friends. She always had a good time at bingo, even if she rarely won. She cherished her weekly visits to the beauty salon to get her hair and nails done while gossiping with the gals. Marcie always enjoyed her home filled with loved ones, cooking delicious food, hand stitching her towels that lasted a lifetime, and dawdled in her endless supply of puzzle books. While in Arizona, she appreciated the warmth, able to enjoy watching her westerns on tv, outside on the patio basking in the sun, while playing catch with the dogs. She always looked forward to church, often going multiple times a week when she was able. At her new church in AZ, she was delighted by the beautiful music performed. She gave instant gratification to anyone she met and will be abundantly missed by all who knew her.
Marcie is preceded in death by her husband, Ned Martinez, children Ned Jr.(Pee Wee), Ricky, and Margie Martinez, parents Eduardo and Agapita Martinez, brothers Eddie and Andrew Martinez, sisters Bernice Ayala, Delores, Betty and Evelyn Martinez, great-granddaughter Celeste Guinn and grandson Adam Guinn. She is survived by her sons Celestino (Tino) Martinez (Denise) and Russell Martinez, grandchildren Mariah Guinn, Bre Varela (Derrick), and Cameron Chavez (Logan, daughter), great-grandchildren Michael and Alexander Guinn, Danika and Jeter Varela, sister-in-law Joann Beightel, and many more friends and family left behind.
