died at home in Crawford, CO on April 5, 2023, just short of 99 years.
He was the only child of Mae and James Olney Field, born to them in their later years.
He was a brilliant child and excelled in school. While at Colorado Springs High School,
he met a beautiful young girl who taught him to play bassoon. During the bassoon
lessons and playing together in band, Margaret and Marshall fell in love. They were
married on October 16, 1944.
During the war, Marshall was sent to the Pacific where he was stationed in Finchhafen,
New Guinea with the Signal Corps. He was attached to the Sixth Army on Luzon, and
while in Japan, Tech. Sgt. Marshall J. Field oversaw the Sixth Army’s Very High
Frequency radio, telephone, and teletype circuits.
After the war, he returned to his studies at the University of Colorado, and graduated in
1949. Their first child, Marcia, was born the same spring. Their son, Frederick, was born
in 1951. Marshall earned two graduate degrees from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY:
Engineering Physics and Science. He first accepted a job with Collins Radio in Iowa,
and in 1956, welcomed a third child, Bonnie Jo. In 1961, Marshall took a position with
the National Bureau of Standards in Boulder. The family settled in Westminster and
traveled to Denver to remember the Lord with the Brethren.
In 1967, the family moved to Northglenn. Margaret and Marshall lived in this home for
the rest of their years together, even celebrating their 60th anniversary. Margaret died in
2008, and Marshall moved to the Wind Crest Senior Living community in 2009. Part of
the appeal was the swimming pool there. Marshall swam five days a week for many
years.
In the spring of 2013, Marshall was seated at a table with a widow and they quickly
realized they shared in the love of the Lord. Marshall and June fell in love and were
married on Valentine’s Day of 2014. June died of a stroke less than two years later, but
as always, Marshall’s love of the Lord endured.
In April of 2022, Marshall (accompanied by his precious kitty) moved in with Bonnie.
Marcia came from Florida on Valentine’s Day of this year to help care for him. He had
both Barcias (a long time joke that he sometimes mixed up names) by his side until his
death on April 5th.
Marshall was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Lorain, his second wife, June
Overholt, his son, Dr. Sarab Nam Singh Khalsa (Frederick James Field), and his
grandson Hari Field. He is survived by two daughters, five grandchildren, and seven
great-grandchildren. He will always be in our hearts.0
