I remember Mr Shelby driving the blue Vega. West Adams County FD. RIP Sir.........

Dignity, Honor, Respect, caring, loving..those were some of the qualities of my dad. But most of all PROUD. Proud of his family and everything we stood for. Right or wrong , he always had our backs. He made us laugh and he made us cry.  No matter who you were, if you needed help he was there. No one ever went hungry or cold as long as dad had a say. He fought a good fight till the end. He was my hero, my best friend....true super man. He was my dad. Fly with the angel's and know your memory will live on through all the hearts you have touched. I love and miss you daddy. ❤

For 25 years we lived near Mel. He was a wonderful neighbor, neighborhood watch captain and friend.  God’s speed my friend.

My favorite Uncle ever I was in high school and my boyfriend threw a firecracker at my leg my mom called uncle mel and he rushed over to check me out. I will always remember your loving ways sleep with the angels uncle and tell my mom and dad i love them

Your parents were such wonderful people and Friends I miss your mom she always had a smile on her face even though I got to know them threw working at kings even living down the street for years I always loved seeing them. I'll miss your dad's hugs every time he seen me I'll miss his jokes and smiles and conversations  he was a real sweet guy. I'm always here if you need to talk or cry with it's hard losing your parents and your sibling so close together. My heart goes out to you.melissa we love you and if you ever need anything let us know. Your Dad will be greatly missed we love you!

Until I was 10, I lived on the same street as the Shelby family.  Missy and I were in the same grade...and because I was young, I didn't know Mel and Wanda well.  Years later I started working at the same law firm as Wanda.  She recognized me from the 10 year old girl I use to be.  She became a great friend and through her, I came to know how much she loved Mel.  Whenever she would refer to him she would call him "my Mel" - I am positive she is elated to have him by her side once again and is showing him off to everyone in heaven.  I can just hear her say "this is my Mel" with the pride and love she always had for him.  RIP Mel...give Wanda a huge hug for me.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your father. He has been a extremely dedicated, devoted father, husband and even a stronger fighter. His battle against cancer was nothing short of valiant and he fought to the very last moment. Losing a parent is extremely difficult. Losing the last parent is even harder especially when it hits you and you realize you have never lived one day of your life  without one or both of your parents. I am not going to lie, it's scary. In the months to come you will go thru an enormous range of emotions and it's too be expected, normal and part of the grieving/healing process. In time, the pain will lesson and life will fill the void where your Dad once was. But, he will always and forever live within your heart and in your memories of him. Take peace and comfort knowing he is no longer in pain, cancer free and finally reunited with the love of his life and his son. May your memories of him warm your heart, bring you comfort, laughter and soon a smile to your face again. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family.
