Michael Patrick O’Malley, age 42, passed away on November 8, 2014 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Mike is survived by his wife Michele; son Sean; father Tom (Marcie); brothers Dan and John; grandfather James A. O’Malley; mother and father-in-law Mary and Geary Middleton as well as numerous beloved extended family members. Mike was preceded in death by his mother Judy, grandparents Grant and Viola (Helmboldt) McCabe and Rita (Kornbeck) O’Malley.
Born August 3, 1972 in Des Plaines, IL, to Thomas P. and Judy A. (McCabe) O’Malley, Mike attended Bethel Park High School in Bethel Park, PA and graduated from Pomona High School in Arvada, CO in 1990. Mike earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Western State University in Gunnison, CO in 1995. On July 19, 2003 he married Michele L. Skidmore and on May 24, 2007 they became the proud parents of Sean Patrick O’Malley.
Mike lived the majority of his life in Colorado in the Denver suburbs of Arvada, Aurora and Commerce City. His early years were spent in Wheeling, IL; Olathe, KS; Stone Park, IL; and Bethel Park, PA.
Mike was a sports fan’s sports fan. His interests especially included baseball (Cubs and Red Sox), football (da Bears!), hockey (Colorado Avalanche), NASCAR (#24!!) and golf (he could hit the ball farther than most people go on vacation!). Mike was the go-to guy if you had a question about an athlete, statistic or event in any of these sports and he could usually give the answer off the top of his head. Mike was justifiably proud of his career at Denver Health System where he started in 2002 and rose to the position of Associate CFO. At work he was the executive who everybody liked, always had time for a co-worker from any level in the organization and could relate easily with all. Most important and more than anything else, Mike will be remembered as an amazing family man, beloved son and grandson, proud brother, adoring husband and outstanding father. He loved every moment of fatherhood, truly cherished and proudly recounted each and every event in young Sean’s life. He was devoted to Michele and he provided her with the best life he knew how. Together they made a wonderful team and shared a wonderful life.
A wake will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Olinger Highland Mortuary and Cemetery, 10201 Grant St., Thornton, CO 80229. Mike’s funeral and interment will be at this same location at 10 am on Saturday, November 15, 2014. Relatives and friends are welcome.
