Randy grew up in Cranford, New Jersey, a suburb of Newark. He achieved an Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy in 1977 from a community college in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after attending the University of New Mexico for two years, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Washington in 1980. After working for many years as a respiratory therapist, Randy obtained a SEC certification as a stock broker, and worked for several years as a broker, before moving into advertising sales for a number of companies, including radio station KHOW in Denver.
In December 1977, Randy married Gwen Jarahian, who he met at the University of New Mexico. They were happily married for 39 years. Throughout his life, Randy enjoyed playing guitar, mostly in the bluegrass flat picking style, but in other genres as well, and was a lifelong runner. He enjoyed spending time with Gwen and their dogs at cabins in the mountains [years ago very rustic ones, but more recently “fully loaded” ones!], and was absolutely devoted to the many dog friends he and Gwen loved and treated as their children, currently Lola, a golden retriever, and Ziggy, an English springer spaniel [and all of which they spoiled more than they would have any child] over the last 40 years together.
Randy is survived by his spouse Gwen and his mother Gina of the Denver metro area, and his half-brother Greg Young of New Jersey.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and his sibling Gary Young.
No visitation or funeral service will be held, and interment will be private.
Randy had an unmistakable love for the dogs that he and Gwen made a comfortable and loving home for, and felt strongly that we should all provide for those less fortunate than us. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to any of the following, or any other non-profits that are special to you: the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, Denver Rescue Mission, Food Bank of the Rockies, the Denver Dumb Friends League or other local breed-specific animal rescue non-profits or no-kill animal shelters. Condolences may be left on Randy Young’s online guest book on this page.
Arrangements under the direction of Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, Thornton, CO.
