

Richard Eugene Gross was born March 20, 1932 on a farm outside Western, Nebraska on his parent’s 10th wedding anniversary. He attended country school all of his elementary education. He graduated from Wilber High School in 1950 and joined the Nebraska Air National Guard. After his term was over in 1951, he returned home to help his Dad farm, having other jobs in between. He met Pauline in 1955 in Swanton, Nebraska; they were married on August 20th, 1957 in a rural Church in Seward County, Nebraska. He was employed at the Nebraska State Penitentiary as a guard when they met. They farmed for a short time; Richard sold Peetz Feed to farmers. He was employed at different elevators’ in Saline and Butler counties.
They moved to Colorado in 1968 as Richard was interested in attending Gunsmith school in Lakewood. This was his passion for the rest of his life. His shop was in the basement for their 42 years at their home. He had built a rifle for his all of his children and all of his grandchildren as well.
He was a member of the American Legion and was commander of the Legion Post in Swanton Nebraska. He was an active member of the Golden Gun club and mowed their property for many years. He also mowed the lawn at the church for several years as one of the trustees. He was a member of the Builders Sunday School Class, and served on the SPR Committee in the 80’s.
He had quite a few ailments that he dealt with during most of 2012. He died at the Alpine Living Center in Thornton, Colorado on February 17, 2013, at the age of 80. His survivors are:
