Rose Fernandez

Although rose never finished high school, she went on to obtain her high school diploma and other degrees through night school and other educational options. She held a variety of jobs to start her journey to a career she held for decades. One particular story sticks out about her and some of her sisters working in a cannery for a short time but she moved onward and upwards from being a secretary for a judge in holly colorado in the late 60’s to moving to Denver to start her career working for the United States post office. then she moved to Washington DC, where she spent a majority of her career walking her way up the career ladder. She came back to Denver, where she retired in 2002.

Rose loved to gamble and would often times take the casino bus to Blackhawk. She also loved to scratch lotto tickets. She was funny, grumpy, only and loving.

Rose never had children of her own but did help raise her sister Frances’ children Barbara Castro (husband -Joe) and Robert Benabides (wife-Antoinette) whom she considered her son. Along with Robert she also got to experience being a grandmother and a great grandmother to Fredrico Benabides: Robert Benabides Jr (Seleste), Traygen, Jace, Evany, Reign: Anastasia Heinz (Jay),Lilliana, Camilo, Luciano, Elena: Anthony Castro, Mia: Alijah Castro, Alani.

Rose is survived by Peggy Dennis (Rex) Angela Herrera (Theodore), Josie Fernandez (Raul Dominguez), Alice Baca (Joe) ,Valerie Fernandez, Virginia Herrera ( Manuel), Steve Fernandez ( Betty), Mary Upham ( Robert) Emma Gonzalez ( Alfonso), Joe Fernandez ( Kathleen) and numerous nieces and nephews

Rose was preceded in death by; Grandparents-Gregorio and Prejedas Fernandez, Parents- Jess and Fernanda Fernandez, Brothers-Robert and Tony Fernandez, Sisters-Florence Flores and Frances Benabides, Nieces-Karen Cruz and Sheila Castro-Lucero

Nephews-Ralph Fernandez, Gilbert Banuelos, Daniel Gonzales, Stanley Gonzales and Annette Florence Raulsten

A Visitation and Rosary service will be held on Monday, February 9th at 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Olinger Highland Mortuary, 10201 Grant St. Thornton,CO 80229. A visitation will be held on February 10, 2026, from 10:00 am to 10:30 am at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, located at 19099 E Floyd Ave, Aurora, CO 80013, US. The funeral mass will follow at 10:30 am. A graveside service will take place on February 10, 2026 from 2:00 pm at Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229.
