Sharon Jeanne Thorne-Schmidt, 83, of Brighton, CO passed away peacefully at home surrounded by those who loved her on January 4, 2024. She was born August 2, 1940 to Everett and Elaine Compton in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Sharon grew up on the family farm in Iowa with her sisters and brothers until she traveled extensively with her father as a teenager. Once graduating from Pickstown, South Dakota in 1957, she spent some in time in Germany before moving to her beloved Colorado in 1959, where she spent the rest of her life.
There she met her husband Noel with whom she had four children and a life full of love. While married, they enjoyed traveling, skiing, scuba diving, and pushed each other to experience new things. After the passing of Noel, she met her husband Smitty with whom she shared a beautiful connection. They experienced a life filled with traveling, golfing, and owning the Flair Lounge.
Sharon was unforgettably sharp and witty. She was a world traveler who loved learning about other cultures. One of her earliest passions was the game of golf, in which she spent a lifetime experiencing courses in many countries. She enjoyed reading, cooking, cribbage, and owning the Flair Lounge. Her best friend in life was her granddaughter, Morgan Pearson, who will miss her dearly. Together they shared many laughs, collecting elephant figurines, cooking, trivia, and spontaneous trips. They were one in the same and thrived in each other’s company.
Sharon lived the life she wanted being unapologetically herself.
“End of discussion.”
Survivors include two sisters, four children, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers Ronnie Compton and Marty Compton; sister Connie Compton; husbands Noel Thorne and Vernon “Smitty” Schmidt; and daughter Tracy White. And many dear friends over the years.
Cremation was chosen and no services will be performed per her request.
