

She met Charles McFarland “Mac” Tschanz, a USGS geologist, while attending Stanford University. They were married on June 17, 1958 in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The family lived in Sunnyvale, California for two years while Ginny finished her studies. Then they ventured to South America where Mac was an advisor to the government of Bolivia (1960-1965) and Colombia (1965-1969).
On their return to the States, they lived in Lakewood, CO and Mac did his field work in the Sawtooth National Wilderness Area of northern Idaho, where the family joined him for several weeks each summer.
Ginny held a BA from Stanford and an MA from the University of Denver. She worked for ten years, retiring from Penrose Library at the University of Denver in 1993 as Assistant Professor / Reference Librarian.
Mac and Ginny then traveled extensively in the United States and around the world including Mexico, Guatemala, South Africa, Turkey, Israel, Croatia, and Europe.
In late 2005 they moved to Covenant Living in Westminster, CO. Mac passed away in 2006 and, as a Navy Veteran, was buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Ginny was a resident of Covenant Living until May, 2025.
Ginny managed the True Vine Bookstore at St. Luke Orthodox Church from 2006 to 2012. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Association of Scholars and the Covenant Living Fine Arts Guild.
She was the author of three books, “Under the Condor’s Wing: A Memoir of South America”, “A New Sky and a Strange Earth” and “My Favored Life” (A StoryWorth Book). From 2015 until shortly before her death she was a commenter on the online Wall Street Journal.
Their three children are: Tor (Dawn) Tschanz of Gardner, CO; Michael (Julie) Tschanz, of Westcliffe, CO; and Laurel (Michael) Fowler of Arvada, CO. Their grandchildren are Rachel Tschanz of Fort Collins, CO; Meghan (Dustin) Haefele Tschanz of Athens, GA; Corbette (Benjamin) Timmer of Houston, TX; Emily Fowler of Madrid, Spain; Kelten (Lauryn) Tschanz of Aurora, CO; Benjamin Fowler of Golden, CO; and Joel Fowler of Fort Collins, CO. Their great granddaughters are Emmeline, Aurielle, and Noah.
Ginny passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025.
