Bernie is the only child of David and Stella Brand of Monrovia, CA. She was born in St. Louis, MO on October 18th, 1924. After graduating from MAD High School in Monrovia, CA, she married Stanley Babcock in 1943 during WWII while he was in the US Navy. After the war they moved to Dinuba, CA and later to Fresno, CA where they raised their family and ran a small business. Her husband preceded her in death February 24, 2013.
Bernie moved to Visalia, CA to be near her son Bob and his wife Pam. This was followed by a move in 2017 to Portland, OR to be near her daughter Sandi and her husband Paul.
Bernie leaves her daughter Sandi Walsberg (Paul) in Portland, OR and her son Bob Babcock (Pam) in Pinehurst, NC. "GG" or "Plain'O' Grandma" as she was fondly known, dearly loved her grandchildren Kristi St. Martin, Robert Scott Babcock (Adrienne), Karen Munday (Shannon) and Janelle Bosanek (John). She will be greatly missed by them and her precious great-grandchildren Shaun, Dylan and Danielle Babcock, Matthew St. Martin, Erin Bosanek and Jasper Axtel.
In addition to retiring from Sperry Rand's New Holland Division in Fowler, CA, Bernie was active in Ham radio as a member of the Fresno Amateur Radio Club. She was an accomplished Morse Code operator with the callsign W6ADB. Other passions include sewing. She was a co-owner of Buttons and Bows, a retail sewing supply shop that also offered instruction and support for the hobby. Stan and Bernie loved the world of square and round dancing. They traveled extensively providing instruction and demonstration, even as entertainment on cruise ships. Bernie was thrilled to serve as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star chapter in Dinuba, CA and followed that honor with a leadership position at the State chapter.
She had a life full of faith, fun, laughter, and love. Her happiness in life was surpassed only by the happiness she brought others. She was always the life of the party. Her passing is a home run for her many friends and relatives already enjoying the bounties of Heaven!
The angels need to put on a pot of coffee, here comes Bernie!
She will be interred at Fresno Memorial Gardens next to her parents and her husband Stan.
