Thelma lived many places in southern Washington and Oregon, including Grants Pass and Klamath Falls, where she cooked her special pies for a local restaurant. During the 1950’s in Portland, she worked as a meat wrapper at the Parkrose Tops All grocery store. Thelma had two children during her first marriage, daughter Sandra and son Dennis Madarus.
She was a charter member of the Eugene Friendship Club, founded May 1, 1986, and remained active until her move to Vancouver in 1990. She enjoyed gardening, crafts and playing cards, but as an excellent cook, her light shined brightest in the kitchen. She was famous for her Czechoslovakian pastries, baked goods and everyone’s all time favorite – potato salad.
