Dear Tom and Family,
So sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing.  I’m sure you don’t remember me.  I think we only met once.  I last saw Uncle Eddy a couple of years ago in Lake Oswego.  It was great to see him.  Full of fun.  Telling jokes and stories.  My kids still speak fondly of meeting him and how he would drive his mustang back to Iowa.  He also reminded me of my visit with your parents in west Des Moines.  Sharp as ever.  A real gentleman.  I wish I spent more time with him.  My thoughts are with you.

I loved my Uncle Ed. His terrific sense of humor made him so fun to be around. He was truly entertaining with the great life stories he told. One of my favorites was how he met my Aunt Mary Ann! Uncle Ed knew the Thomas family history well, and I so appreciated the information he could give me.  I will miss my uncle. He was a blessing and I am so thankful for the years we had with him.

There is so much I could say about Uncle Ed.  How can I capture him.  He was amazing, wonderful, delightful.  So......because I love words let me lay it out like this:   EDWARD JACKMAN was.......

He was a man of humor, full of jokes and fun.  I remember my Dad and him playing cards and always laughing.  He loved cribbage.  He was caring, always looking in on me and others.  He was extremely pleasant to listen to and I loved all of his stories.  His memory was amazing.  I loved playing the piano while he sang.  I still have a video of him singing the song he sang to Aunt MaryAnn. “I’ll be Loving You Always”.  

He kept himself in shape mentally and physically.  I also have a video of him trying to teach Pam and I how to lift weights for our arm strength and flab!  He was great at keeping in touch and calling.  It is unbelievable how many annual trips he was able to make to Des Moines and I thank God for everyone.  I enjoyed him and Rhonda so much.

Uncle Ed loved the Lord and I appreciated both his humor and his serious faith.  I cannot and will not ever forget the call he made to me saying it would be his last.  He was so sweet.  I am glad he did not suffer long and now............I think I still hear him laughing and singing!

Love you Uncle Ed!!!!!!

Uncle Ed, or "Knucklehead" as he was affectionally called in our family, was a close friend of mine and our family.  As at the last surviving member of my wife's family's generation, we looked to Ed for wisdom, perspective and stories.  
And, oh boy, could he tell stories!  My favorites were of how he met Mary Ann on the streets of Des Moines during WWII when she and her friends were on a scavenger hunt and needed a sailor; the relief he felt when he was  en route to Japan and hearing of the bombing of Hiroshima; and what it was like to live and work in Des Moines in the '60's, '70's and 80's.
We treasured his semi-annual "road trips" to Des Moines in his Mustang.  He valued all his extended family and friends in Des Moines, and we loved and appreciated him!  In later years, he was accompanied by his companion Rhonda.  They took good care of each other.  We very much appreciate her as well, and wish her the best!
Eddie was "one of a kind," and we will always treasure his memory.

I met Ed in 1976 when I started working at American Mutual Life. He greeted me with a smile and, of course, a firm handshake. I was just a green kid, but he was kind to me from day 1.  We had many cups of bad coffee, and quite a few good lunches.  Ed was one of the funniest people I ever met, which helped to make coffee breaks fun! He was smart, and I believe universally liked by his co-workers.  I last saw Ed at a driving range probably 20 years ago. I asked how retirement was treating him, and he said, "It's like having 6 Saturdays and a Sunday every week." 

I am mourning with you.

Uncle Ed was really the best and nicest man. His comedic timing was genius and he could usually sum up a situation in one hilarious and dry remark. Uncle Ed loved a road trip in his blue mustang, a good smoked Iowa chop, fresh Iowa sweet corn, and a stiff martini. He was more active than most 40 year olds I know. One time when I was visiting, he told me all about his exercise routine and about what he was doing with his personal trainer. Uncle Ed also had a jam packed social schedule, I’m guessing this is because he was always such a joy to be around with a sunny disposition. Fortunately, he lived a full and loving life. 

I hate how suddenly he was taken from this world, but I am so grateful he did not suffer long. Over the past 10 years, I have been so fortunate to have been able to visit him between my visits to Oregon and Uncle Ed’s visits to Iowa. The most recent visit was this past November when my mom (Jan) and dad (Art) and I visited and got to spend a few days with Uncle Ed and Rhonda. We had a great visit and on one day, went to Multnomah Falls. This was the second time I had experienced the falls with Uncle Ed and I’m so glad we snapped a picture this time! 

Again, I feel so fortunate to have have been able to visit and spend time with Uncle Ed so many times over the past 10 years. I love ya’! Rest in paradise and say ‘hi’ to Lucky for me! 

My childhood memories of my Uncle Ed include that he was fun to be around and he made family gatherings so much more interesting. You never knew when he might pull an innocent prank or ‘by chance’ let us see the crazy holiday socks he was wearing like one green and one red -then  act surprised and blame it on color-blindness. I thought he was delightful.  
As a teen I recognized his devotion to my Mom’s sister as  we lived nearby and I observed him enjoying time with my Aunt; often saw them on long walks, knew they stayed in shape by working out together, they spent time having fun with my parents...Uncle Ed always treated my Aunt with loving respect,  often complimenting and nicely teasing her. 
As an adult I saw in Ed his ability to be the bigger person, to take the high road, to demonstrate his long developed strength through  faith in God, to have the courage to know and say what someone needed to hear and to be sensitive to others, showing warmth and sensitivity with encouragement. 
And he never stopped being fun to be around or stopped sharing his great wit! We loved and cherished Uncle Ed and are filled with many more great memories to keep him alive in our hearts.
