J. Keith West was born in The Dalles, Oregon to Murriel and James West. He grew up in Lyle, WA and at the age of 17 joined the Army Air Force and trained as a pilot. He attended Washington State University where he met his wife, Helen. He completed his degree in architecture in 1951 and worked as an architect in the Portland area for the next 40 years, ending his career with Portland Public Schools. Keith was a long time mountaineer and member of the Mazamas, and enjoyed sailing, art, and travel. He passed away peacefully on October 27, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 1978. He is survived by his long time friend, Annelie, three children, Bill of Portland, Gail (Dane) of Port Townsend, WA, and Michael (Mikako) of Tigard, and five grandchildren, Amelia, Maggie, Zachary, Sarah, and Ben. Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Oregon Public Broadcasting and Friends of the Columbia Gorge.
