John was born in San Jose, California on August 21, 1966 to Kenneth and Nancy Lusk. He attended Vine Hill Elementary School in Scott’s Valley, California. In the fourth grade he met his life-long best friend Jeff Harrington.
Almost as soon as he could hold a fishing rod, John began to develop a passion for fly fishing. It was the Mayor of Scott’s Valley who introduced him to this activity which he enjoyed his whole life. While in middle school he even landed a part time job teaching fly fishing at the local bait shop. Just two years ago he caught his largest fish ever, a 23 pound salmon on a fly rod. This was nearly a record breaker in that category.
It was also during these years that John played baseball every year he was eligible in both Little League and the Pony League (often called Babe Ruth).
Throughout all of his school years he was a great student. He graduated from Soquel High School in Soquel, California where he was an honor student and selected as a member of the “Who’s Who in American High Schools 1984”.
John then went on to California State University Chico. There he met his sweetheart, Gwen who was a fellow student. In 1989 John was awarded a BS degree in Electrical/electronic Engineering.
In 1991, after finishing college, Gwen and John were married. They had 2 children, son; Trevor, 18 and daughter; Lauren 16.
The couple had always been drawn to the great northwest. After interviewing with an Oregon firm, while on vacation, they made him an offer he couldn’t refuse and the family eagerly moved to the Portland area. In 1995 he became a permanent employee for the great technical giant Intel where he remained until his passing.
John had scores of friends and he touched many lives through his many outdoor activities including fishing, tennis and camping . He was also known for his avid interest in almost every kind of music from classic rock to alternative and everything in between. He was always the one who organized acitivites and was the glue that brought a lot of people together.
He passed away surrounded by his family, friends and favorite music on June 4, 2013.
John will be missed by everyone he touched. He was a unique gift to all of his friends, he was devoted to his family and will always be in our hearts.
