John was born to Robert and Naomi (Sappington) McClintic in Sacramento, CA on August 10, 1960. The family moved to Oregon when John was a small boy and he attended high school in The Dalles. In 1978, he joined the US Army and honorably served for three years in administration at a military medical center. Following his discharge, John began a career in software technology at Tektronix and most recently was employed with Elemental Technologies, a company specializing in video broadcasting software, as a senior support engineer. In 1987, John married Karen Enstad.
Before children, John and Karen were very active as ski hosts at Mt. Hood Meadows, where John also served as volunteer on the Ski Patrol. Among key activities, John enjoyed participating in with his family were snow skiing, waterskiing, coaching soccer, lacrosse and baseball, fishing and duck hunting. He also loved music and enjoyed playing guitar and drums. John could often be found puttering in his workshop/garage/mancave, and the mere mention of “leaf blower” evokes many memories of his industriousness in keeping the driveway clear.
John will be remembered and missed by his wife Karen McClintic of Tigard, children Jordan and Kyle, mother Naomi McClintic of Portland and her daughter Whitney Kunz and grandson Bradley Kunz, brother Robert McClintic of Oklahoma, sister Linda Plumb of Portland and her children Casey and Jennifer.
