One of our favorite stories is when they were looking  at the house next to us in Damascus and I was in the backyard shooting moles with a 20ga. Apparently Pete was cool with that because they bought the house. 
One thing that was special about the Pumpkin Eater was that so many of my friends would party with him once or twice and then they would ask how he was doing from then on.
After he needed help drinking a drink thru a straw, I would explain that to all the gals and tell them that he would much prefer they helped him. 
Pete amazed me with his perseverance thru dealing with the broken bones, etc.
I'll miss you buddy - it was fun knowing you.

It was always a great time hosting Pete & Sarah’s birthdays at our River house.  We had such great memories!

My Dear brother,  you have so inspired me over the years. I often thought of you when I was going thru hard times  & just thinking of your strength & determination to overcome anything always made me  know I would be ok.  You lived your life  to the fullest .  So many fun beach trips,  Barbeque’s  & family get togethers. You were always so positive, funny, inspirational & always up for a good time!  I loved giving you shit when I was cutting your hair & shaving you!  People were astounded at they way we talked to each other even tho we thought it was great fun! Most of the time! Rest in Peace, Pete. You were so kind, generous, strong, determined, fun, vivacious, incredibly interesting, and so unique. You opened my eyes and my heart, and increased my compassion and understanding... but I still don't think I'll ever agree with your opinions on hunting or fishing! I'll never meet anyone quite like you. I'll miss you. I commit to living life fully in your incredible example. Raising a glass of organic veggie juice in your honor and looking forward to carrying out our long-planned camping trip.

Pete was  a treasure to be around. Although his conversations were often limited, the things he would share were  special. We appreciated  the insight, wisdom, and funny stories he would share. But more importantly, we admired his dedication to family and friends despite his physical limitations. He didn't let those come between him and his community, which we will admire forever. 

We also admire Raina's faithful support of Pete. Watching her help Pete all those years was a lesson in love, dedication, and sacrifice to loved ones. Love is not a feeling but an act of sacrifice, and nobody we know has showed love as great as Raina's for her family. 

May God rest your soul, Pete. We hope to see you again in Heaven.

Uncle Pete was a good guy! I miss him already. He had a great sense of humor and was always good to my children, especially Robert and Rachel. 

Pete made good decisions, and the best one ever, was his choice of a wife. Raina is  a devoted and faithful woman who stood by her man to the very end. Together with their daughter, Malia, Raina loved and cherished Pete during what was arguably the most difficult transition of their lives together. 

I am honored to have known Pete and wish to practice, in some small way, the amazing lessons of life I have learned from the example of this wonderful family… personal sacrifice,  unfailing devotion, rock-solid loyalty, and joy in the face of adversity. 

Thank you Pete, Raina, and Malia for helping to make me a better person. Peter, you left this world a better place than you found it.

Uncle Pete's attitude was incredible to see. I don't remember him ever telling me how difficult his life was or how much pain he was in. He never complained to me but instead always wanted to share stories with me about his life. He always wanted to listen to my experiences at the Academy too. You will be greatly missed Uncle Pete! Love you!!!

We met “Uncle Pete” through Meagan and Travis. Our best memory of him is at their wedding where his spirit, his zest for life, his playfulness and just plain fun shone through in everything he did. Pete grabbed life by the horns and fought a valiant battle to survive under the most challenging conditions. It’s a shame that we didn’t get to know him better and that he didn’t have an opportunity to live a long and healthy life. Our deepest sympathy to Pete’s family and everyone who knew and loved him.
