

Ray attended Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, graduating in 1949. He then attended Pasadena City College for 1 year.
In June of 1950 he moved with his family to Lake Grove, Oregon. Ray went to work at S.H. Kress Co, a five and dime retail department store, located in downtown Portland.
On Feb 19, 1952, Ray was inducted into the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the 802nd EAB (Engineer Aviation Battalion) and served as a supply sergeant in Suwon, Korea. He was mustered out on Nov 19, 1953. He served in the Army Reserves until 1968.
After being mustered out, he returned home and went back to work at S.H. Kress Co where he met his wife, Florence Ellen Wheeler. They were married Feb. 19, 1955. Ray attended Behkne Walker Business College and soon took a job as a stenographer for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 34 years until his retirement on August 31, 1989. Throughout his tenure with the S.P. he was moved to various cities and eventually retired as District Sales Manager in Portland, Oregon.
After his retirement, Ray and Florence enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Canada in their motorhome and spending time with their grandchildren and completing home projects for their daughters. After the death of his wife, Florence in 2000 Ray continued to travel with his children and grandchildren until the age of 87.
He is survived by his 4 daughters, Pam (Ron) Sidis, Sharon Daniel, Linda, and Theresa (Mark) Peterman, 5 grandchildren Joshua, Daniel, Kevin, Katie and Brian; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Florence and his sister, Emily Faris.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to Hopewell House (hopewellhousepdx.org). A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony Church, 9905 SW McKenzie St. in Tigard, OR at 10:00 AM on January 29th 2024. He will be buried at Willamette National Cemetery in a private service.
